Hey y’all, hope you had a great weekend! I did some painting, shopping, had my baby shower, and celebrated Father’s Day so I’m pooped! But everything was great. :) I know you all have been on pins and needles (not really) to see which rug I ended up choosing for our living room, and today I get to finally show you!
You all know I struggled with the ones in our living room that I loved so much because they shed like mad. And we had had them over a year and it still never let up. And when I asked for all of your opinions on a few rugs I was thinking of choosing, a lot of you said I should just go for a synthetic rug to eliminate all shedding problems. And I almost did, but instead was a rebel and chose another wool rug! Haha.
And now enters in RugsUSA who so graciously sent me this new beautiful wool rug!
I LOOOOOOVE it!!! And this was option B for those of you who chose option B in that other post. :) I absolutely love how big it is and really grounds the space better than before. It’s an 8’6″ x 11’6.” It’s their Moroccan Trellis Rug in the color Charcoal. It’s a very pretty grey color and I love it in our room.
Now the burning question…does it shed? Let me start by saying that this rug is hand-hooked, and the old rug was hand-tufted. There is an obvious difference between the 2 which I only discovered when shopping for a new rug.
So you can see what I mean, here is the old rug close up:
And here is the new one.
In the new rug see how the fibers are hooked/looped, and in the old one they are just there? Well, in living with this rug for a few weeks, I have to say the new rug doesn’t shed NEARLY as much as the old one. It’s such a joy. I think since the rug is hand-hooked the rug fibers stay in place and don’t fly around near as much. Now I won’t say that it doesn’t shed at all because I’d be lying. BUT, the old rug made our hardwood floors always look dirty because rug fibers would be all over the place. This new rug does NOT do that, hallelujah. The thing it does do though is it will “ball” up (but stay on the rug) after kids and stuff play a lot on it. So when the big kids and little kids are here rough-housing, I’m vacuuming it quite a bit, but that’s no biggie. I do think it will eventually slow down in that regards too. But at least the floors still look clean! I guess you have to pick and choose which you’d rather have with a wool rug…fibers everywhere around your house or fibers balled up on the rug. I choose the 2nd one. :)
As always I’ll keep you updated if thing start to change though!
Everything in the living room you’ll see in the following pics can be found in the link I’ll put at the bottom of the post. The only new thing are these lampshades that I bought at Homegoods.
Now here are just a few more shots of the living room with the new rug, so enjoy!
Have I mentioned I love it? And while I loved the old rugs too, I’m kind of happy this rug isn’t as blue and is a true grey. Gives more decorating options. :)
RugsUSA has an abundance of rugs in all styles so if you haven’t checked them out before you should. If you can’t find anything you like on their site I don’t know where you could!
If you wanted to see more about the gallery wall and the previous living room makeover, you can view this post to get most of the source list for everything in this room. And the paint color in here is Sherwin Williams Balanced Beige. :)
I love the way this rug looks so much I plan on getting a runner for our entryway too. What do you think? You like the new rug?

I lovee it! It looks so good in that living room, I’m pretty much in love with the whole room.. I was thinking though, that if you remove the last collumn of pictures to the left with the gallery wall, that it will be balanced with the couch, and still be a straight line down. Just a thought. Anyway, love it as always.
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Oh, Emily it looks great in there. I am all about the hooked rugs for that reason. And I agree that the gray will give you more options. You have done such a great job in your space. It seems like such a joyful and happy space to be in.

Thanks sweet girl!! We love hanging out in here. :)

I do. I do. I do love that rug. However, it is the board & batten on the one wall in your family room that has me drooling. I’ve been toying with the idea – I, too, only have about one wall (the others are windows, tv niche or open to kitchen) – I am so biting this. ;)
Gorg rug! Lovely room!!

Haha go for it you’ll love it!! :)

What an awesome rug! I have just begun a quest for a BIG rug for our living room and the options are so overwhelming (along with the prices – sigh…). Great to see how one looks IRL. Fab choice!
Decorchick! says
Thanks Kelly! Yes big rugs are expensive. Be sure and look for coupon codes out on the net because rugsusa always has good deals and promos. :)

I love it! I’ve seen this pattern on Rugs USA forever and it’s just fabulous. It works really well in your living room. Thanks so much for showing the difference up close of the hand-hooked vs. hand-tufted. Super helpful

I really love it. I am a big fan of grey. I just got finishied painting our living room grey and painted all the trim white. Very calming and lovely.
I took out our rug in our living room. It was a big rug but the room looks so much bigger without it I’m not sure I will put one back in. After seeing yours I WANT ANOTHER RUG!!
Great job!
Angela @ Cottage Magpie says
LOVE the rug! It’s fantastic! And I totally agree with the wool. Wool rugs will literally last forever. I have bought hand-hooked wool rugs online that were 100 years old and they still looked beautiful. Plus they don’t stain! The natural oils in them repel stains, so if you wipe things up fairly quickly, no stain! I love wool rugs. The brand new ones do shed, but they stop eventually. That’s normal.
Your living room looks just beautiful!!!!

Hello gorgeous rug! This is my first time here so I don’t know what your old rugs were like. But if they weren’t perfection, they weren’t as good as this one. Love it. And your whole living room is lovely :)

Just found your blog! Love it! Though I’m disappointed I didn’t find it a week earlier I ordered a similar rug for my living room but ended up with a bluish charcoal rug from overstocked :( when the one I wanted is the exact one you just replaced yours with. At least now I’ve seen a up close colour comparison :)

I just discovered your blog. I just love your living room! I will try to decorate mine similar to yours. Where did you get your curtains? It goes so well with the rug. Thanks!

I ordered this rug from rugsusa.com and it just arrived. I love the look/style but I have to ask. Did your rug have a ton of loops undone? Mine has a lot …my brand new rug looks old and used. My heart is breaking.

Hi! I love your room so much! I’m redoing my family room right now, and I think this rug would be PERFECT! I do have a question for you. When I looked up this exact rug on rugsusa, the charcoal color looks so different than your picture??? The one on rugsusa looks really dark…almost black. Yours looks like a perfect gray. When I read the reviews of the rug on rugsusa, several people said that their “charcoal” rug looked blue! Do you have any insight on this? I don’t want to order if the rug is actually black or blue! I want gray, like yours!!!!
christy says
did you get an answer to this? I am going through the same thing! I want to buy this rug but now the charcoal is called “blue grey” and a rugsUSA rep told me it is the same rug, they changed the name b/c people were complaining it looked blue — I want a true gray rug like the one shown in this blog. help!!
Decorchick! says
Hey Christy, it’s grey, but I can see where some might call it a blue/grey? It’s really hard to tell. If you want a deep charcoal or something, this isn’t for you. But to me it’s mostly grey. :)
Tracy says
I’m curious if either of you ended up ordering this rug. I currently have the Overstock version and love it but I’m looking for something that is a more neutral gray. RugsUSA markets it as a blue gray but it looks quite dark on their website. Wondering if either of you ended up ordering this rug and if you think the color is more of a gray or a blue gray. Thanks!
Decorchick! says
It does have a slight blue undertone to it. I do have it and love it!

Hi Emily! I found your blog on pinterest a few months ago….shared with several friends…and drooling over your rooms since then! Thank you for sharing! I have used a few of your ideas, at home and in my esthetic room at work :)
I have a question, where did you get your brown leather furniture? Its time to trade in my sectional! Thank you! :)
Decorchick! says
Hey Yolanda thanks! We got that furniture from Star Furniture in Houston. Still love it and still looks like new.
Yolonda says
Thank you! Do you remember the style name? I see several leather sets but your base looks chunkier. Theirs look more round. Hope its not dis continued :/

I just googled “Moroccan Trellis rug and a brown couch” and I’m so glad I found you! The best part is I have the exact same rug that you used to have (majorly sheds) and last night I ordered the blue-gray trellis one from RugsUSA. I’m moving into a condo (with carpet – ugh) and I think this will do the trick to liven it up a bit. I’m wondering, what size is yours? Thanks for the inspiration!
Katie says
Oh! I just saw that it’s 8.6×11.6 and that’s what I ordered. Thanks again!
Paige Storsteen says
I looked at the website where you got your rug from, http://www.rugusa.com and they have the blue/grey color only. Is yours different?

hi Emily!
I’m very curious how your rug is holding up and if its still shedding. I’m torn between this one and a polyester rug. Love the wool, but don’t want to be vacuuming my whole life! thanks and the room looks amazing!

I’m glad I’ve found your blog… We are going through exactly the same thing looking for a rug. We’ve just returned a 9×12 to Overstock due to excessive shedding. That thing is heavy… I’m just wondering if those little shedding on your new rug has stopped?

Just want to post an update. We bought the 9′ 6″ x 13′ 6″ in the same blue grey in October 2014. We really like the look of the rug. However, the shedding has never stopped or slow down after 16 months.

I know this is an old post, but in case anyone reads these comments, I want to say that I wish so much my experience with RUGS USA was like yours. I ordered a beautiful rug, that was coming apart after about 2 months in my dining room (not a very used room of our house). RUGSUSA says in their privacy policy they offer no guarantee on quality or any return option after 14 days. They would not post my negative review of the rug and when I asked to speak to a supervisor I was put on hold indefinitely. BUYER BEWARE with this company.
