New Big Girl Bed and Big Girl Room Plans

Ahhh it feels so good to write a post! A week is definitely too long not to, but I had good reason. :) Which by the way thank you all SO much for the sweet comments again on our little Ellie.  But today I am switching gears to talk about our other girl, Emma. And in fact, her birthday is today and she is 3 years old! And up until about a month ago, she still slept in her crib. Don’t judge. The girl never tried to get out or anything and she loved the crib so why make her move?  Well we did have to give her the ole’ boot so we can put the crib in the nursery. So that meant it was time to go bed shopping!

I knew all along I wanted a daybed for her room because I love the look of them, and they save so much space in a room giving her more playroom in there because you won’t have a big bed sticking out in the middle of the room. And here’s the new big girl bed.

White Casey Daybed

This particular daybed has caught my eye for quite some time now and I first saw it on Just a Girl’s site and then House of Hepworths.  Both Chris and Allison have it in their girls’ room and I think it’s so precious. So after saving up to buy a new bed, before I hit “purchase” I asked Allison if she happened to have a coupon code I could use on this bed when ordering online, and sure enough she did! And for 15% off!!  So I got this bed for a great deal thanks to Allison so thanks girl!  Be sure and check out the bed in her daughter’s room and the bedding she made for it. Awesomeness.

I ordered it from Hayneeedle.com and this is the Casey Daybed in white.  It also comes in a stained wood which is really pretty too. My experience ordering the bed online was great and everything went smooth, thank goodness.

I love the beadboard plank detail on the back and sides of the bed too.

White Daybed

What’s also cool about this bed is the pull out trundle.  This will be perfect for future sleepovers or those nights her new sister wants to cuddle.

Hayneedle Daybed

When you order this bed from Hayneedle, they give you the option to choose a free mattress, so of course I chose the free mattress.  That’s it on the bottom without a sheet.  I can see why it’s “free” because it’s definitely not a mattress an adult would want to sleep on, but for kids it’s fine.

Here’s a pic of Emma helping Daddy putting the bed together.

And then here’s the happy girl getting ready to sleep in her new big bed.

Sorry for the 2 grainy iphone pics. But she slept great, didn’t fall out, and loves her bed. :)  I can’t believe how easy the transition was. I swear this girl has spoiled me as a mom in so many regards.

I can’t wait to start transitioning her room to a big girl room.  I still need to get bedding and everything too.  And I would LOVE the bedding Chris has on her daughter’s daybed. Maybe. We’ll see.  Should be fun though! I’m kind of over the pink and green although it was sweet for her nursery. :)

What’s your favorite room ideas for little girls?  I don’t want it too grown up that’s for sure so it will be plenty girly I can assure you of that. But I’d love to hear some of your ideas since my internet and pinterest surfing days are limited. Oh, and p.s.-about half of this post was typed with one hand. That should be award winning.

xxoo,

What a great bed! I love daybeds too, I had one all the way up through high school the same one the whole time. :)

We’re in the process of looking for big girl beds too, my daughter is almost two and a half and she too loves her crib. She flipped out of it one time, and she’s never done that again. ;) I think it scared her so much the first time that she never tried to climb out again.

I love that daybed! My daughter is 10 but she and her brother split up bunk beds from their time of sharing a room. My 2 1/2 year old son is still in a crib, so you won’t hear anything from me. LOL He loves it and doesn’t climb out so it’s all good.

The bed is adorable! I’m so glad she’s happy with it and sleeps well. I’d say she is a real trooper right now, new baby sister and all. It’s been so long since I’ve decorated for little ones, I have no suggestions. I do agree that there are many other color combos to use these days.

I have no idea how you even have time to post but glad you did!

So sweet…I remember how proud my daughter was when she made the move from crib to big girl bed. I would use her favorite color and make it sweet and feminine….shadow stripes on the wall, colorful floral patterns in the draperies and throw pillows and plenty of room for all those beloved stuff animals. And dont forget family photos for her to kiss goodnight each night. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Oh Emily! It is SOOO cute! I’ll bet Emma just loves it! The trundle is my favorite part and gets used constantly–whether it’s a sleepover or her older brother sleeping there! As for the bedding…it’s was pricey, but I just told my husband the other day that it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It’s BEAUTIFUL and such good quality! Just my .2 cents for ya. :) Glad you bought the bed. Love it in her room!

    2. My kids both stayed in the crib way past 4, so no judging here! they loved it, and I loved them being in one place.
    3. So fun to watch you make a big girl room…kids rooms are my faves to put together. I have a pinterest board for them, for no reason other than I love them.

2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very har 2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very hard. It is the strangest, most emptiest feeling one could have, and one that not everyone understands.

Tonight was the 3rd griefshare meeting that I’ve attended, and that does help to be around others who have lost someone close. But it is also so painful hearing their stories. And it’s a night during the week that I’m forced to think about how he’s no longer here. It’s helped me to realize all of the thoughts and actions we have are normal, and the things we do that are odd to others, are actually part of the process.

I haven’t been able to wear these shirts of his yet (he wore them every single day. The red one was his “fancy” one), but I’m glad I have them. It’s just really crappy I can’t see him in them any longer. 💔

This is a pain like no other. I watched him take This is a pain like no other.

I watched him take his final breath at 7:24 this morning. The scent of him is still so palpable.

Gone too soon, and years stolen from his wife and grandkids.

We live in the same small neighborhood, right around the corner on the next street. Now the girls can’t ride their 4-wheelers to go see him. We can’t just swing by to pick him up. He can’t go on our walks anymore. There are lots of no-longers, and it is crushing my heart.

Who am I going to call now when I have a question on how to fix something? He had a solution for everything usually saving us hundreds of dollars. Everything was fixable to him, rather than hiring someone. And often he would find the answer on YouTube.

Who am I going to text with when the Astros make a good or bad play during the next World Series?

I want to hear his voice again. I want to go over and cut his hair again. I want to make him another pie for his birthday and Father’s Day.

It hurts so much.

I love you Daddy.
