The Sweet, But Not Too Sweet Valentine’s Day Mantel

Hi friends hope you had a great weekend! I was able to finish up our Valentine’s Day mantel over the weekend and snap some pics because we finally had some sunshine! It’s been a dreary couple of weeks here.  And usually I do some pretty foo-fooey mantels for Valentine’s Day but this year I wanted to bring it down a notch. So I kept the pink boa packed away this year. Haha.

Anywho, this is what I came up with this year and I quite love it! (said in my British Downton Abbey voice)

Valentine Mantel

I love it so much! It’s still cutesy and lovey, but a little more grown up? At least that’s what I think. Ha!

The blue and red combo was inspired by those big chevron vases that I found on clearance at Kirkland’s for $13!!  (Facebook friends–those are the 2 items that I drove off with and left that day!) Then, since I really want to get my money’s worth from that rose wreath from Target that I usually use at Christmas, I thought Valentine’s Day would be a great time to use it again.  I do really love it. And I just happen to love aqua and red together too so BAM! And that’s how this year’s mantel was born. :)

I shopped the house for the rest of the items. I layered the wreath on my old antique window, framed that out with my shutters, added a few other accessories and that’s it.

The pom pom garland was super easy.

Valentine Garland

I love those pom-pom garlands you see everywhere, and I was thrilled when I was at Michael’s the other day and saw they already come made! Hence the reason they were easy. :) $2.99 for 4 ft and it comes in white, pink, or red. Love it. I just used the white and hooked them together.  Those paper heart doilies are also from Michael’s for a few bucks as well.  Sweet right?

I sat a birdcage (I think from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby?) on top of my Ballard knock-off books.

Birdcage

One of my favorite things on here this year is this free chalkboard printable that I got from Nest of Posies. She had 4 designs and I loved them all it was hard to choose.  But you can print them for free too and frame and boom…instant cuteness (and art!).

Valentine Printable

It really looks like a chalkboard doesn’t it?

Here are a few more shots of the mantel.

And that’s a wrap! Whatcha think?  I bet people are going to think I made a cotton ball garland huh? Not a bad idea I suppose! :) Sharing this post at Sarah’s Before and After Party.

Looks great! I especially love the Chevron vases! What a great price at Kirklands! That store is so hit or miss! Have you ever painted anything chevron? I have some ceramic vases that need repainted my new colors and I was thinking of trying to do a chevron on one of them! Seems like a daunting task though…

It was my first time going with Randy to one of hi It was my first time going with Randy to one of his gigs. This wasn’t just any gig though. It was a very special wedding for a beautiful couple.❤️

And after witnessing firsthand what all he does for events like this, I have a new appreciation for what he does because it is a LOT.🤯

From loading in setting up three PA systems in 3 separate areas, then immediately switching gears to performance mode and playing ceremony music + sax, dinner music + MC’ing, then reception DJ’ing + sax. It was really pretty freaking mind-blowing to be honest. And then you have to tear it all down! Talk about a full day (I felt hungover the next day and I don’t even drink), but if you are in the entertainment business you get it. And he does this multiple times a month!

So many moving parts, and being flexible when you need to switch gears at the last minute, and he handles it with so much ease. That’s why he’s the professional at his craft.🫶

I was just there more as his emotional support person, but would love to do more events with him where I’m actually useful. 🤪Maybe I’ll learn to wrap up cords the right way one day to his liking, but that’s doubtful. 🤣

It was the perfect new year’s day and can’t wait to do it again!❤️

Congrats @claudine.said and @chefaustinsimmons it was a JOY witnessing your special day.

3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔 Does life mo 3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔

Does life move on?

Yes, but not without a hazy fog lingering over you that never fully lifts.

Not without the deep ache in your heart longing for more time.

Not without reaching for your phone wanting to call or text.

Not without the family gatherings knowing someone is missing, even though no one mentions it.

Not without crying when you think of him or look at old photos.

I still cannot talk about him without tearing up. Certain songs or sayings break me.

After losing a parent, everything looks different. Time with your family begins to feel more intentional, because you want the moments to last.

The hustle feels less important, because you realize your people matter more than any dollar amount.

Grief and gratitude can coexist. It’s okay to be sad, and it’s okay to be thankful for a dad who is worth missing.❤️
