Last week. Oh last week. You were a hectic one. Here’s a random list of some things I did, just because. Just because it’s not all about decorating over here.
- I enrolled Emma (my 3 year old) in dance. Tap, Ballet and Jazz. She (and I) loved it and we have that once a week now.
- We visited a church’s children’s day out program. I’m thinking of putting her in something like that twice a week, but I’m scared. Scared to leave her, scared of sicknesses, and I’m just going to miss her. She’s my little buddy and I love being with her. That’s why I’m a stay at home mom right? To stay home with my kids? Yea, I have issues about this obviously.
- I went grocery shopping. With both kids and no help for the first time. It went well!
- I thought about working out.
- I ate lots of cookie dough. It’s a bad addiction I have.
- I flipped through the tv channels acting like I have time to watch a show. But honestly it was just mindless remote clicking knowing full well I don’t have time to watch anything in its entirety.
- I thought about projects I want to do and got sad there’s no time to do any of them.
- I thought about Fall and got happy.
- I went to Target.
- I cried.
- I probably got mad at my husband sometime last week–I really don’t remember.
- I cursed at my computer and Iphoto.
- I still did a load of laundry every single day I can’t believe it!
- I went back to Target.
- I went for a walk with my family.
- I visited my brother and sister in law’s new home.
- I went to church.
- I dreamt of a beach vacation, like in one of those huts on the water. Tahiti anyone?
- I praised my husband for fixing my computer.
- I cooked 4 nights in a row. But I can’t even remember what I cooked right now.
- I took pictures of my kids.
- I went and browsed around Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and Home Depot just to get out of the house a bit.
- I watched HSN and QVC too much last week (during the night feedings).
- I watched too many infomercials (also during night feedings). By the way, that Insanity workout looks nuts!!
- I tried to go clothes shopping but that was a mistake.
- Then I thought about working out again. After another bite of cookie dough.
And that’s all I can think of now. I think I managed to take a shower or 2 last week too? Exciting stuff y’all. Maybe this week will be more exciting? And maybe I’ll make this a weekly series, just because. Just because it’s random and funny. It would be cool to be able to say I actually worked out and didn’t eat any cookie dough this coming week. :)
Time is precious. Very very precious. And while it may seem like I am complaining with that list, I totally am not. These are just real life things that I do–besides the decorating and DIY. :)
So, how was your week last week?!
xxoo,
Decorchick!

Thanks Maria you too! :)

Love your list! I started doing a load of laundry every other day, which has been fantastic! I was going to do once a day, but then figured that I would run out of things to wash after a week, so I started doing one load every other day, and I’m loving it!

Good for you!!

I remember those weeks and become instantly exhausted in the remembering! As a single mother (ultimately), I couldn’t stay at home, but had a lifelong friend for a sitter…what a blessing. I did have my son do “pre-school” to (a) know Mom always returns :), (b) socializing with peers & learning “classroom rules” (c) to prepare me for when he started school since homeschool was not an option. He loved all of it for 2 years, 3 afternoons/week. He made friends, learned Christian principles, always had something exciting to tell about his day. It made his transition to kindergarten much easier….for him, not necessarily for me (item C not fulfilled…sigh). Your little one will be fine no matter what you choose to do!
Decorchick! says
I’m glad you had a good experience Guerrina. I know they are good for kids too. I just have separation and control issues. Haha. That, and I don’t know if I’m homeschooling yet or not! I have a lot to figure out. :)

I followed your link up from ThriftyDecorChick.com because I noticed your rug in the living room from Rugs USA is EXACTLY like the one Sarah uses in her living room at ThriftyDecorChick.com. Your websites are similar too, same font, almost the same name, ect. Are you sisters, twins, BFFs? :-)
Decorchick! says
We are friends online and just so happen to have chosen the same rug I guess. Big coinkidink! I’ve seen a lot of people with this same rug lately.

Oh how reminiscent your story is…and so funny! I thought I was reading about myself 30 years ago when my son was born…not much changes for stay at home moms but you’re certainly not alone…enjoy every single minute of it; even though those minutes go by and you don’t even remember some of them…because before you know it, they’ll be grown…amazing!
Decorchick! says
haha I do love it too Nancy. It amazes me how much Emma has grown already. So sad!!

I feel your pain darlin’… Those first few weeks/months with a new baby and a toddler can be rough. I was also very hesitant to send my oldest to a Mother’s Day Out Program at church, but he LOVED it! He started the day before my second son was born. He is all signed up to go back this year. Even if you are a stay at home mom, it’s nice to have a bit of time away from your older ones. It gives you that special alone time with the baby, plus you can run errands/get things done that are harder to do with both kids. Trust me, it’s a good idea! Good luck with your week. Enjoy those baby snuggles while you can… It’s hard to believe that my little guy will be one in a few weeks. Time flies! :)
Decorchick! says
Good reasons Emily! There are several benefits I know. And I know she would just love it and love to have friends. :)

Great list!! You are so brave to go grocery shopping– I still haven’t tried that with two yet. Thankfully I have a sweet hubby who goes for me!
Decorchick! says
Yes you are very lucky!

Fun post! I lived away from all family when my kids were little and it was so very difficult to have “me” time. I found a lady that had a type of mother’s day out program for 4 yr olds and my son loved it! It was a very small group and she made it fun. She taught them German, Spanish and started on Italian. It was hard on me initially, but I needed some time to be with friends or just be. My daughter was 2 and went to a mother’s day out program at church so I had a few hours each week to do whatever. Saved my life ~ or at least my sanity. :) Oh, and my son took German in school and was in a German club.
It’s such a huge blessing to be able to stay home with them but you do need to have some free time and she will love being with other kids. Hope you find something that feels comfortable and will work for each of you.
xo

Wow Pat that lady sounds like a saint! I’d love to find something like that too. And good advice…thank you. :)

Ha! This list is awesome! I love the cookie dough mentions:0) You should try 30 Day Shred its pretty awesome and only about 20 minutes a day! All you need is hand weights, that and 20 minutes!! lol!! Love you friend! xoxo

Such a great list. I remember watching a lot of recorded HGTV during those night feedings too! And I so remember trying to shop for clothes way too early- was so disappointed at Target that the big pants didn’t even fit me:)
Heather says
Totally relatable! I love it. I found myseklf nodding the whole way through ;)
(Especially the parts about going to Michael’s just to get out and wishing you could watch a program the whole way through, but infomercials sometimes suffice).
Also, the early childhood programs a few days a week are incredible for the little ones and it gives you something to talk to her about and also grows her self confidence (former teacher here and mommy who had same concerns). I would say don’t worry, but you will, because you are a mom, but it will lessen as you see how much she enjoys it. Thanks for sharing and keep on, Decorchick!
Decorchick! says
Haha true Heather! But thank you so much for your advice I really appreciate it. I know she would love having little friends too. :)

Emily,
I am SO glad I came across your blog through Pinterest. Dear goodness, your week sounds exactly like mine except I am training for a 5k so somewhere in there I thought about training for it. Oh and I cooked less, ha! I’m so glad to read about another SAHM’s week that is so similar to mine.

Just LOVE your blog! When I read #2, I immediately could relate. I thought it was my job to be there for my firstborn daughter 100%…But I eventually enrolled her in Preschool at age 3. It was so hard to do, but definitely the best decision. Besides her having so much fun and learning, it prepared the entire family for Kindergarten and the following school years. We met many great families, and even found a church home through the preschool. Also, what Heather said about the self-confidence is so true! Thanks for your blog and Good luck with your Mother’s day out/Preschool : )
