So one of those wild hairs struck me Saturday morning. Maybe because school is about to start SOON, and I’ve done nothing so far? Very possible. But I’m glad it did because I am pretty darn excited with how this room is turning out so far. And to keep you up to speed, I am redoing our gameroom and turning part of it into our homeschool room. And we had the white molding in there, but I went crazy and painted it this.
And I can’t believe I haven’t done this sooner. Seriously. Wait until to see some real pics. All these are just crappy iPhone pics because I was painting into the wee hours of the night for 2 days straight.
Remember our gameroom was previously that blue/grey color? Well, I never really loved it. That’s probably why I never did anything else in that room. I’m convinced when I don’t love something, especially the paint color, I’ll just let it sit forever. And ever.
But not no more, hallelujah!
Oh yea, and obviously I painted the rest of the walls white, but these photos were taken with just 1 coat so there was still a lot of bleed through.
This room was a beast. I asked myself several times over the weekend “what was I thinking” but I’m glad I pressed on. And thankful my husband watched the kids all weekend while I was cooped upstairs for basically 2 days straight.
And I actually did live on the edge a bit…
Not my finest hour, but that was one view while I was cutting in up on the high ceilings. You know, that wall that I’ve always wanted to close in?
That open space still terrifies me and I have nightmares about it. I still do want to close it in. And you can’t even see the ceiling in that picture, but it was HIGH. My palms were sweating. But I survived.
The paint color I used for the wainscoting is Dovetail by Sherwin Williams. I really really love it.
It is a new color for me, and I just chose it on a whim, without getting a sample or anything. You know, when you get that wild hair, you just run with it and hope for the best.
Luckily it worked out in our favor!
I’ll share more of this room (with better photos) once I get some time and get to decorating it. That’s the fun part!
And to see more dark wainscoting ideas, see this post. Lots of great ideas!
Hope you all had a great weekend!!

I love the color! I’ve been seeing dark wainscoting everywhere, but haven’t found a place for it in my own home yet. The open gameroom trend is popular where I am, too. We almost bought a house with one open to the foyer, but it kept me up at night so we went with a different house. For some reason it never occurred to me to close it in until years later!

Looking good! So happy to hear you are about to embark on a homeschooling adventure. ;-) I was homeschooled for all 12 grades, plus kindergarten, and am now homeschooling our oldest and soon will start kindergarten with our second son. It’s the best. :-)

Looking forward to seeing your next photos. I plan on using Dovetail when I repaint my dining room and maybe even my entry.

Love the color, and totally understand about wanting to close off the wall. We have a small alcove like that near our back staircase and our front railings on one side overlook the foyer area…made me a nervous wreck when the girls were little. Hubby laughed because when we were house hunting if I walked in and saw a “cat” walk I walked right back out!!!

Looks beautiful! The woodwork, doors and trim are about the same color where I live (apt). I was very surprised when I first saw it and it has had to grow on me ~ so accustomed to white. :)
I’ve been away for awhile ~ lots of technical/computer issues. Feels like I’ve missed a lot in the blogosphere.

I love the color, I would never have thought it would look that good on a wainscoting but wouldn’t be my first choice but you’re making me a fan:) Its beautiful

LOVE the gray! My brother and his family just moved into a new house, and their bannisters and railings are all dark (almost black) charcoal gray. I’m SO ready to go for it – I have 3 boys under 10, so all of the white ends up gray anyway. Might as well join ’em, right?

I’m a huge fan of Dovetail by Sherwin Williams too! I recently painted it in my boys room (you can view the room here http://providenthomedesign.com/2014/08/01/boys-shared-bedroom-reveal/ ). It is the perfect dark gray color because it has warm undertones which creates a warm soothing feel rather than a cold cave like feel. Love it with wainscoting too! Great work!

This gray really did work out :)
Pictures are from a bit of confusing angles, can’t figure out if that’s a chandelier we can see through that big hole in the picture where you talk about how high the ceiling is.

Beautiful work! May I ask what colour white you used for the walls? It looks like a nice, warm tone!
