A Pretty Yarn Wreath

You all have seen them around, love them, and have probably made one yourself already.  The beloved yarn wreaths.

I wanted to make one for Fall, but it turns out this wreath will pretty much match our house year-round without looking too Fall-y, so that’s a bonus.

It’s so simple to make one, but I’ll still go through the brief tutorial for ya.

First, buy your yarn and a wreath form.

You can use just one color, 2 colors, or multiple colors. Whatever floats your boat.  For this one I chose a mustardy yarn color (endorsed by Ms. Vanna herself), and a yarn that was a brown/cream mix. And I bought the yarn at Hobby Lobby. I already had the spare wreath form.

Then since I was kind of making a “design” with mine, I marked where I wanted the different colors to be with a Sharpie, so they would all come out even.

And that method worked pretty well actually!

Then use a dab of hot glue on the back for your first piece and just wrap and wrap, and wrap some more.  It took me a while. Maybe 2 or 3 hours?  But I was doing it off and on so that’s probably why.  And because my hand hurt.

Here she is all wrapped up (at night).

Then all you have to do is add a few embellishments…

And you’re done!

Isn’t it cute?!  I just used a bit of hot glue to hang it on my new antique old window that I recently found.  It lives on the mantel, which I’m still working on for Fall, but it’s lookin’ good and can’t wait to show y’all!

*Update* To see the yarn wreath on the Fall mantel click here.

So tell me, have you made a yarn wreath yet?  Do you love them?  If you’ve made one and blogged about it already, feel free to post the link in the comment section.  And don’t worry if it doesn’t show up right away–If there are too many links it thinks it’s spammy, but I’ll un-spam it. :)

ok now that is just adorable!!! I LOVE IT! and the colors are perfect. ok question: did you just hold the entire skein of yarn in one hand and start wrapping or did you unwind the yard first? does that make sense? i need visuals- Im a visual gal! LOL

    • Decorchick! says

      August 31, 2011 at 1:04 pm

Thanks Amanda! Yes, I just held the whole thing and wrapped it that way. I think that way was much easier than if you unwound it. :)

Very cute, I picked up some supplies to make my own today:) I have a few questions…1. How did you attach the floral pieces? Did you hot glue them to the front? Tie them with ribbon around the back? Or place the stems on the wreath and then wrap yarn around them to keep them in place? I’m sure there are multiple ways to do it, but I thought I’d ask before I start!!
    AND:
    2. Where did you find the yellowish-jewel-looking things? I found some fun items, but wanted to add a little “bling” type stuff and could find any at Michael’s or Stein’s (a floral/garden center we have here in WI). Please help:)

    • Decorchick! says

      September 1, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Hey Alyssa, I actually hot glued them on. Just a little though so I could remove later if I want. But you could also use some floral wire and attach them that way also where it ties in the back. Then that way you could always change out the embellishments if you want.

I found all of it at Hobby Lobby. I found those beaded wire things on one of their Fall aisles.

      Hope that helps!

Love this wreath and I am going to make it. I found the yellow yarn at Hobby Lobby but I need to know the exact color of the other yarn you used. I couldn’t decide which one it was…so I didn’t buy one! Do you still have that information? Thanks! p.s. the vanna white one color is “mustard”, right? Sorry I am crazy un-crafty so I have to try and get it as close as possible.

2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very har 2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very hard. It is the strangest, most emptiest feeling one could have, and one that not everyone understands.

Tonight was the 3rd griefshare meeting that I’ve attended, and that does help to be around others who have lost someone close. But it is also so painful hearing their stories. And it’s a night during the week that I’m forced to think about how he’s no longer here. It’s helped me to realize all of the thoughts and actions we have are normal, and the things we do that are odd to others, are actually part of the process.

I haven’t been able to wear these shirts of his yet (he wore them every single day. The red one was his “fancy” one), but I’m glad I have them. It’s just really crappy I can’t see him in them any longer. 💔

This is a pain like no other. I watched him take This is a pain like no other.

I watched him take his final breath at 7:24 this morning. The scent of him is still so palpable.

Gone too soon, and years stolen from his wife and grandkids.

We live in the same small neighborhood, right around the corner on the next street. Now the girls can’t ride their 4-wheelers to go see him. We can’t just swing by to pick him up. He can’t go on our walks anymore. There are lots of no-longers, and it is crushing my heart.

Who am I going to call now when I have a question on how to fix something? He had a solution for everything usually saving us hundreds of dollars. Everything was fixable to him, rather than hiring someone. And often he would find the answer on YouTube.

Who am I going to text with when the Astros make a good or bad play during the next World Series?

I want to hear his voice again. I want to go over and cut his hair again. I want to make him another pie for his birthday and Father’s Day.

It hurts so much.

I love you Daddy.
