My Letter to Santa…

Dear Santa,

This little guy really doesn’t cut it for me any longer…

I’ve had this hand mixer ever since I got my first apartment, which is about 12 years now.  It’s the only mixer I’ve ever owned. And when I used it recently, I started to smell something smokey, so I think it’s on the verge of blowing up and that would be bad. Very bad.  Plus, it takes all my might to use this thing when I am trying to whip up some cookies or pumpkin bread.

So, I think I need something that does the work for me.  You know, something like this…

I know that is quite the upgrade, but I promise to take good care of her and make delicious treats.  It would be so great if you can come through on this one.

Thanks Santa.

Love, Emily

So friends, that is on my wish list this year.  Just one little problem is that it’s way too expensive!

What are you wishing for this Christmas?

xxoo,

Decorchick!

Seriously, it’s worth it. When I want a larger gift, I justify it to my husband by forgoing gifts for other occasions throughout the year, so the gift becomes a Christmas/Mother’s Day/Birthday gift.

It will be one of the best investments. I burned up a couple of the hand mixers when I was younger much younger (like 20). For my birthday one year, my family pitched in and bought it for me. Skip ahead 14 years (ouch), it still works just like it did the first time.

Also, take a look at Craigslist or Ebay. I came across a few by accident the other day on Craigslist.

I want a Dyson Vacuum lol!…I know that is a dream as they are up there in price. At least for me. But they clean so darn well. They clean the dust off a wood floor like no vacuum I have ever used. Momma and Dad? I know I am 38 years old but this is my wish and Santa to. Oh, one can dream haha…

I hope you get your blender. Its very pretty and really has that vintage look to in. Those have always gave me a twinkle in my eye :)

I’m in the “it’s worth it” crowd, too. I found mine a few years ago on Amazon on black Friday and it was about 15% off, which is great for these guys because, as I’m sure you know, their price never changes. BUT, it also never wears out! My mother’s still works the way it did when she got it as a wedding gift 30+ years ago!

When I got mine my sister became the happy recipient to my old food processor, mixer, blender, w/all attachments from 1986 that was still going strong. She’s had it now for a couple of years, still taking a beating from her and going strong. Gotta love machines that continue to get the job done!

Hey Emily!! I love your blog. But I must suggest upping the asking for Christmas: you should ask for a Bosch mixer instead of a *dare I say lame?* kitchen aid!
I use my bosch to make 6 loaves of whole-wheat bread at once, and it is super powerful and will outlast any kitchen aid. It’s the bomb. (And it’s expensive….but it will last your lifetime) It can come with a blender attachment that is razor-sharp. Seriously, the Bosch company is the same that makes top of the line hardware products for people who do construction.

Anyway, I’m just a student at BYU, not a bosch salesman, but if you want to see an example check it out here:

And to think I just sold mine at a yard sale. Now don’t get me wrong… it was a great mixer but I upgraded. For the past two years I’ve been using a Bosch due to our family’s needs (I make 4 to 6 loaves of bread once a week plus grind our own hamburger.) Now as much as I LOVE my Bosch I realize it is not for all people. And Kitchen Aide is a great product! When my Grandma passed away in 1998 her 1940’s Kitchen Aide mixer was still functioning and used on a regular basis…

My Christmas present…. umm I would love a stove exhaust hood which vents outside…

If they weren’t so expensive, I’d buy another and give you mine as it won’t match the new decor (says Veruca Salt). I LOVE the Copper mixers. Hey kitchenaid, if you’re reading, how about a French Gray mixer? Hee hee.

I’ve been using my KitchenAid Accolade for the last 5 years. (It was an upgrade from the hand mixer.) It’s done well meeting my needs including making lots of large cakes and mixing fondant, butter cream, and other icings. When I started making bread I learned about Bosch. I have seen one at work and have been drooling over the idea of owning one and the sooner the better. Yesterday I made 4 loaves of bread and 2 dozen sausage kolaches and milled the grain with my KitchenAid. I just know the Bosch would have cut my time in the kitchen in 1/2 and just to be clear…all I want for Christmas, birthday, Mother’s Day, and wedding anniversary is the Bosch Universal mixer with blender. :)

Getting stronger—inside and out!💪 I’m not Getting stronger—inside and out!💪

I’m not just building muscle—I’m building longevity.

There’s something powerful about moving heavy weight. It reminds me of what I’m capable of—not just physically, but mentally too.

Lifting weights isn’t just about aesthetics. For women, it’s essential. Here’s why:

1. It preserves bone density and helps prevent osteoporosis

💪As we age—especially post-menopause—our bone density naturally declines. Lifting weights helps slow or even reverse that loss, reducing the risk of fractures and improving long-term mobility.

2. It builds lean muscle and boosts metabolism

💪Muscle burns more calories at rest than fat, which means strength training supports fat loss and makes it easier to maintain a healthy weight without extreme dieting.

3. It reduces the risk of chronic diseases and supports long-term health

💪Lifting improves insulin sensitivity, lowers inflammation, and supports heart and brain health—helping reduce your risk of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cognitive decline.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your own strength journey—this is your sign. It’s never too late, and you don’t have to be perfect—just consistent.☺️
