There’s a new addition to our backyard and it’s pretty fabulous. Like, it’s kind of a home decor accent for the outdoors (because it looks that good), but on a much larger scale than what I’d buy for something to go inside the house! In fact, it’s pretty huge. Come take a tour of our new backyard fort!
We built that aren’t we awesome? Um, yea right. We did though however invest in an amazing backyard play system for the kiddos! Go big or go home right?
We did a LOT of research on backyard play systems and forts and decided to buy from Tree Frogs in Houston. Their quality and safety features surpassed the competitors and we just liked the company in general. :) I know that you can buy swing sets and forts at other places like some big box stores etc., and they are usually about $1k & up. Well the quality of those just didn’t give me peace of mind (even though I’m sure they are totally ok), but we are in Texas and have hurricanes and stuff, and those sets just seemed too flimsy for my liking. Not to mention I want my kids to feel safe too! So for us, it was best to invest in…the best! It’s kind of like how I think you should spend decent money on a good sofa and a good mattress, well the same goes for outdoor equipment that your kids will be on.
Now do you want to see the rest of it?
They use Redwood and Western Red Cedar for all of their play systems, and they are also naturally decay resistant, which means they do not have to be treated with possibly toxic chemicals to last for years outdoors. We chose their Bengal Fort 5.5 Configure 2 w/wood roof and treehouse panels. You can get it with the lower floor that also has the treehouse panels, but I LOVED the idea of having a built-in picnic table on the lower floor so we can all eat outside so we chose that option. Plus I know our kids and know they would dig the table. You can configure any of their sets pretty much however you like.
The picnic table is a very nice size and we can all comfortably sit down here.
It’s really quite large with plenty of headroom etc.
The 2nd floor treehouse is way cool and very spacious too.
I was standing up taking that picture so you can see how much room there is. Plenty of headroom for the parents to hang out too.
Love love love the chalkboard in here!
Here’s the floor on the 2nd level so you can get an idea of the play space.
All of us can sit up here too and play. I still can’t get over how much room is up there.
A fun captain’s wheel comes with it too.
Can’t you tell the quality in the wood is killer? It’s so pretty to look at!
I love the safety handles too.
Oh, on one side there’s a big rockwall.
So fun!
Here are some more pictures so you can see the other features.
By the way…that scoop slide is FAST. And you might fall on your butt if you’re wearing leggings because it’s so slick. Ask me how I know. Glad I wasn’t holding the baby that time. ;)
And no this isn’t a sponsored post, I just am thrilled with it and wanted to pass on the info! This will last many many years and I love to see the joy it brings the kids. Tree Frogs has several locations and several different sets to choose from so check them out if you’re in the market for a swing set. We went to the Houston location off of the tollway. And I think you can have it shipped to you also–all of their sets come pre-drilled so all you have to do is bolt it all together.
Are you in the market for the playset? Do you already have one or have a Tree Frogs set? The kids stay out there all day pretty much. I love seeing their imaginations run wild. As long as they don’t climb on top of the roof or something crazy like that. :)
xxoo,

Oh my goodness, I love this! Just yesterday, I was wondering if I should get a slide/swing set for our backyard, but I decided against it because I figured William would grow out of it so fast. But this fort looks like the kids can play on it for years and years to come! I’m definitely looking into this today!

Hey girl! Oh kids will play on these things forever! Z is almost 13 and he’s out there all day on it too. I feel like we’ve already gotten our money’s worth. ;)

Hi Emily,
We’re new to Houston (Katy) from the Midwest. Does it get too hot here to play on the swing set? I’m debating whether we should get one for our backyard… I don’t want it sitting out there and my kids begging to go play on it if it’s going to be entirely too hot for them to even touch the wood or the plastic… and I don’t want to spend a chuck of money on a swing set that’ll be used for no more than 5 mins because of the heat. But, we don’t have a park around and I think it would be a wonderful addition come fall. Lemme know what I should be expecting this summer!

Emily,
Welcome to Houston! My advice is to stick to the yellow colors for the slide and swings. Avoid the dark green swings and slide as darker colors absorb and hold the heat much more. As for wood, wood is not a “heat conductor” thus does not get as hot as metal. July and August are the hottest months of the year. My kiddos get out on the swing set in the evening during these hot months.
