Interchangeable cheese dome cloche

I jumped on the cheese dome turned cloche bandwagon.  They are all over bloggyland, but I first saw Allison at House of Hepworths transform hers.  You can find her post about it here, and it’s a fabulous tutorial.  She is just too good and I heart her like I heart chalkboards.

I found these at Goodwill.

Aren’t those Candlesticks gorgeous?  They were $1.99 each!  I was on the hunt for a chunky candle holder to use as my stand, and thought these would be perfect.

I started out by removing the little feet on the cheese tray.

Once I took them off I discovered they were just stapled in, so I didn’t even have to use wood filler and fill in the holes. Score!!

I had a hard time deciding if I should paint it white, black, or ORB.  I went with Heirloom White spray paint and figured I could always change it in the future if I get tired of it.

I did prime this first with spray primer.  If I didn’t it would have taken several coats of the white because the wood would just soak it up like a sponge.

Believe me, I am all for cutting corners, being lazy, and skipping steps when I can, but it’s a good idea to prime when you paint wood.

Then I painted one of the candlesticks Heirloom White.  This was hard for me because I thought it was so pretty as is, but I like the white too.  I then added some moss to make a little nest on the cheese tray, and stole a birdie I had somewhere else in the house to put on top (but you could put all sorts of things in it like fake fruit, seashells, really anything goes). Put that all together and you get this.

Cute right?!!  But remember my other candlestick that I didn’t paint?  I just decided I wouldn’t use any glue to attach the tray to the candlestick so I could swap them out whenever I want!  Since it’s not secured down, it will live in a kid friendly place in the house.  :)

Isn’t that purdy too?  Love it!!  I love cloches and anything glass.  And since I am so indecisive, this idea is perfect for me.

Sorry for the lovely reflection but this was another night time project.

Here they are together waiting patiently for a bird to live on top of them.

Which do you like better?  I’m really diggin’ both of them.

It makes me happy being a part of the cheese dome cloche (CDC) group now.

xxoo,

Decorchick!

My poor mantle is bare. I hung a mirror above it when we moved in but haven’t had the time to do anything else. I’ll take a picture and send you!

I still can NOT decide on a color for mine. When it’s decided, I’ll know to use a primer first! Great tip!

Boy, DecorChick, I am enjoying your posts! Now this one is great too — I love BOTH of the candlesticks with the cloche. The glass one is nice because it matches the cloche… The white one is nice because it matches the plate and the bird! Great job and great idea, really.

Oh my gosh, I have to know where you got that bird! I’ve made two of these cloches so far, I love them. In one, I put a cream colored candle and some branch thingies (that’s the technical term by the way) and I want to do a cream colored bird in the other.

Your HL must be cooler than mine, then! I’ve checked three of mine in the area, and each time I think I find a bird that will fit, and nope! They are always about a half inch too tall.

2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very har 2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very hard. It is the strangest, most emptiest feeling one could have, and one that not everyone understands.

Tonight was the 3rd griefshare meeting that I’ve attended, and that does help to be around others who have lost someone close. But it is also so painful hearing their stories. And it’s a night during the week that I’m forced to think about how he’s no longer here. It’s helped me to realize all of the thoughts and actions we have are normal, and the things we do that are odd to others, are actually part of the process.

I haven’t been able to wear these shirts of his yet (he wore them every single day. The red one was his “fancy” one), but I’m glad I have them. It’s just really crappy I can’t see him in them any longer. 💔

I watched him take his final breath at 7:24 this morning. The scent of him is still so palpable.

Gone too soon, and years stolen from his wife and grandkids.

We live in the same small neighborhood, right around the corner on the next street. Now the girls can’t ride their 4-wheelers to go see him. We can’t just swing by to pick him up. He can’t go on our walks anymore. There are lots of no-longers, and it is crushing my heart.

Who am I going to call now when I have a question on how to fix something? He had a solution for everything usually saving us hundreds of dollars. Everything was fixable to him, rather than hiring someone. And often he would find the answer on YouTube.

Who am I going to text with when the Astros make a good or bad play during the next World Series?

I want to hear his voice again. I want to go over and cut his hair again. I want to make him another pie for his birthday and Father’s Day.

It hurts so much.

I love you Daddy.
