A Spontaneous Trip

Over the weekend we were headed to the local outlet mall to buy me some clothes.  But somehow we did something totally out of the norm and took a little 3 hour road trip to the BIG outlet mall, with baby and all.  We literally did a u-turn on the freeway and just started driving the other way on the interstate.

But anyway, I am in DIRE need of new clothes so I don’t continue to look like the housewife who never takes care of herself anymore.  But alas, I’m still going to look like that because when we got to the big outlet mall I saw this…

Oh my.  I had no idea there was a Pottery Barn outlet there.  I didn’t even know there were real Pottery Barn outlet stores. It’s a very good thing it’s 3 hours away.

The place is HUGE and the prices are amazing.  I am still dreaming about the day I go back with lots of money saved.

I’ll show you a few pictures of the inside, but just a warning most of them are really crappy because they are from my cell phone.

Here are rows and rows of gorgeous sofas.

Pretty Fall things…

It’s hard to tell in the following picture, but this was a section of a lot of the West Elm lacquer boxes that are so hot right now.

There was a lot of West Elm furniture and accessories too.

There were a TON of more things that I didn’t get to photograph because I didn’t have the good camera on me.  There were chairs galore, lots of lighting fixtures, rugs, accessories, basically anything Pottery Barn sells it was there.  I seriously could not get over the prices.  They had tons of lamps that were only about $50.  That’s a steal considering a lot of PB lamps are $150 and over.

Oh, so you want to see what came home with me instead of new clothes? :)

Yep, that is PB’s “decorative ledge” that sells for $350.  It’s really a massive fake mantel and that’s what I’m using it as.  How much did we get it for?  $150 smackeroos!  Now that is not cheap by any means, but it is Pottery Barn after all, AND it’s beautiful. I’ve never even owned anything from PB before.  I feel so ritzy! Haha.  But seriously, I thought about buying this all day.  And it even took going inside the store 3 times to “think” about it and to justify spending that much.  On the 3rd visit inside it was late and little girl was done for the day.  So I said “let’s just go.”  And we did.  We drove off and were headed to make the 3 hour journey back home.  About a mile down the freeway my husband said “are you SURE you don’t want to get the mantel?”  Ha, and you know the ending to that story!

And this is where it’s going to live in the house…

I know it looks like poo in that picture, but trust me, it’s good.  Come back tomorrow so you can see my new mantel decorated!  It is well worth me having to look frumpy a few more weeks.  :)

Do you have a Pottery Barn outlet near you?  I looked them up when I got home and there are only 10 in the country!  I feel so blessed to live in Texas. :)

xxoo,

WHAT!?! I had NO idea there was such a thing as a PB Outlet! Good thing it’s in TX — I’d be there all the time, otherwise! :) You are ONE lucky girl! And I’m just loving the shelf you got — can’t wait to see it all decorated! :)

Our PB outlet is about 45 minutes away, far enough for me not to get into trouble too often. The best deal I got was a beautiful 5 x 8 rug for $30 that retailed for over $300, SCORE! Love your mantel and can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Oh, were you in San Marcos?? I haven’t been in a long time, but I live in SA, so it’s not too far from me. I’ll have to check it out one we move into our new house! Yippee!!

Ooooh, oooh, ooh, that sectional piece in the first pick is EXACTLY what I want for my living room. Do you remember how $ it was? I can’t read the sale sign in the pic! I, too, live in Texas and it ROCKS! I’m about 4.5 hours away from San Marcos but, man, for the right price I would be on the road for that couch!!!

    • Decorchick! says

      September 29, 2010 at 12:03 am

Hey I don’t remember what the price was on that one. Just on that sign in the picture it says take an additional 15% off the clearance price. So I’m sure it’s a good deal!

Lucky duck. No PB outlets near me. But, there is hope. A new outlet mall is currently under construction. Maybe, just maybe they’ll have a PB outlet! I will have to hope and pray and ask Santa.

I’m so stinkin’ jealous, Emily!!! I want that mantle so bad. It calls to me every time I open a PB catalog. I had planned to attempt a DIY version this month. Since I’m not working anymore, I’ve had to put the breaks on my Pottery Barn addiction. I darn near needed a 12 step program two years ago. I didn’t even know PB had an outlet. Cool. $150 is totally worth it so don’t be second guessing your purchase (I do that a lot). We’ll look like old housewives together for a little while longer…all in the name of chic decor!

    Hugs,
    Jami

Is this the San Marcos outlet????? That place is my heaven. I go there everytime when I go to Texas. I actually quite seriously looked into renting a truck and skipping my flight home just so I could get a $3000 PB dining room table for $299!! I still kick myself for chickening out :(

Too funny…we made a trip to our big outlet mall this past weekend too. Fortunately ours is only 30 minutes away, and they do have a PB outlet!!! I’ve found that the furniture pieces aren’t usually that much lower than those at the store (unless they are scratch and dent), but the accessories are usually discounted quite a bit!

2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very har 2 months later, and it’s still hard. So very hard. It is the strangest, most emptiest feeling one could have, and one that not everyone understands.

Tonight was the 3rd griefshare meeting that I’ve attended, and that does help to be around others who have lost someone close. But it is also so painful hearing their stories. And it’s a night during the week that I’m forced to think about how he’s no longer here. It’s helped me to realize all of the thoughts and actions we have are normal, and the things we do that are odd to others, are actually part of the process.

I haven’t been able to wear these shirts of his yet (he wore them every single day. The red one was his “fancy” one), but I’m glad I have them. It’s just really crappy I can’t see him in them any longer. 💔

I watched him take his final breath at 7:24 this morning. The scent of him is still so palpable.

Gone too soon, and years stolen from his wife and grandkids.

We live in the same small neighborhood, right around the corner on the next street. Now the girls can’t ride their 4-wheelers to go see him. We can’t just swing by to pick him up. He can’t go on our walks anymore. There are lots of no-longers, and it is crushing my heart.

Who am I going to call now when I have a question on how to fix something? He had a solution for everything usually saving us hundreds of dollars. Everything was fixable to him, rather than hiring someone. And often he would find the answer on YouTube.

Who am I going to text with when the Astros make a good or bad play during the next World Series?

I want to hear his voice again. I want to go over and cut his hair again. I want to make him another pie for his birthday and Father’s Day.

It hurts so much.
