Transitioning your Christmas decor into winter decor can be a bit tricky, but if you just do what you think is pretty, then it will work. :) That’s what I did with my winter mantel this year.
I kept most everything from my Christmas mantel on there, but just added a mirror that I got from the Christmas clearance at Michael’s for $15. Why was that a holiday item anyway?? Then I just added accessories I had from around the house until I liked the way it looked. The glass votive holders are from the dollar store and so are the floral leafy stems.
I propped up the painted and stamped book next to the Ballard inspired stacked books.
Now just enjoy the photos. :)
I think this is my favorite mantel thus far! It still looks a little wintery but not Christmasy. At least I hope so? :)
How is your transitional decor coming along? Just do what you like instead of following the rules. That’s my motto at least. :)

xxoo,
Decorchick!
Looking good, and I love that mirror. Great find!
Thanks Sara!
It looks great!
I love it!! So pretty and creative! I can’t believe you got that mirror for only $15! What a bargain :)
It was crazy marked down. I got a different one for our master that I’ll show soon too. Can’t believe they were Christmas markdowns!
I love all the sparkly, wintry decor, but isn’t “screaming” Christmas. I was able to get some of the Michael’s decor also – most of it didn’t even seem “holiday-ish” – but SCORE for us, right?
Beautiful job!
Yes, total score. Thank you!
Looks nice! I’m always confounded by mantel decorating, since at my house, the fireplace is centred between two large windows — add to much and the whole wall looks cluttered, yet not enough and it looks unfinished.
You’re not alone. I’m in the same situation…fireplace stuck right between two large windows. Other than Christmas, I have no idea what to do with it.
It’s so pretty! ?
I like your winter look!
I decorate to please myself…no rules…no decorating police to say this isn’t the “in” thing – I am the one paying the bills and the one enjoying the result of my projects….I don’g mean to sound harsh but I feel decorating should be a personal thing.
Looks great! I am in love with those mercury glass vases. Probably never going to find some now that all the sales are over but I will keep an out for next year ;)
So pretty! And you gave me a couple ideas for my mantel. As of right now I’ve just left out everything that I had in my Christmas display that wasn’t blatantly Christmas (pinecones, wrought-iron deer, etc.). I figure that should last me until March and I can be a lazy decorator until then. :-)

Looks beautiful, and I don’t get “Christmas” from it at all. This decor benefits from the early nightfall because it reflects lights well. I don’t usually switch out decor seasonally because I’m too lazy but your inspired design almost makes me want to. Almost :). Maybe one day I’ll gear up and do it.
It looks so great, and not Christmasy at all! Slow and steady is the course around here ;)
hi….love your mantel! I currently have no fireplace or mantel, but love the look of yours and was wondering what distance from the floor is your mantel? I’ve toyed with a few different ideas, but they all seem to high or to low. I’m only 5′ so pretty much what is comfortable for me is going to look awkward! thanks in
Your Mantle is beautiful! Looks like a picture out of a magazine! You did a great job with it. Love it!
LOVE it! I am seeing so many beautiful mantels lately. This is the first home we have ever owned that does not have a fireplace or mantel. I actually feel inspired to decorate one!
Not Christmasy at all! I love it! Especially the A. :)
Oh, I love it. It looks beautiful. That mirror was a total score. so random it was “holiday” The “A” looks great as well. Happy Weekend.
I love it! Of course, you know I LOVE that PB mantle of yours!!! I love all the different textures you used. Ours is currently pretty bare. Took down Christmas, and since I’ve been swamped doing uniforms for the club I haven’t had time to work on it.
I saw that mirror today! I love the mantel!
It looks gorgeous and perfect for winter. Love the dollar leafy stems and the books. Beautifully done. Hugs, Marty
Love it!! I remember seeing that mirror at Michaels & wanting to buy it after Christmas, but it’s gone now :( I should’ve gotten it before. It looks beautiful!!
Love your winter scene! I had my hands on that same mirror at Michaels… but did not buy it. It looks great on your mantel. Now I regret not buying!
I love this! The mirror appears to reflects so much light – gives a little bit of glimmer to the wintertime theme!
Awesome mantel – it is chippy cool and beautiful. i really love those shutters!
Stacey :o)
Love the mantle. I can’t quite get mine the way I want it. Yours will inspire me now. Thanks for sharing.
I love it! My mantel needs some inspiration right now and this might just be it! Winter mantel is a hard one to be inspired for. I need something before Valentines’ goes up!
It’s great, girl! I agree- wintery but not Christmassy! We did a winter mantel, too. Some pine cones, a winter painting and some glittered candles. Simple and cute. I always love seeing other’s bloggers mantels. It’s the best place to display your cute things!
It looks beautiful. Really gorgeous. Great job!
Wow, now you have me yearning for my house with a fireplace and mantle. I am definitely going to have to look for a mantle now (without the fireplace) :)
Thanks for sharing!
WOW! It’s gorgeous… I need me a “Christmas” mirror from Michaels now, too!
Your mantel is so lovely! Visiting from Stories of A to Z. I think you have captured the winter look perfectly.
Wow! Your mantle is gorgeous! I love your whole look! Great deal on the mirror too!
I think your mantel looks great. It’s got great personality, which I love.
Wow! Looks like Anthropology decor! I love the vintage appeal the arrangement gives. Can’t wait to try some new ideas!
That is beautiful!! I just did my mantel for Valentine’s Day with some candy and candles. I love it, but now I wish I’d done the winter theme for a couple weeks after seeing yours…gorgeous. I love your blog!!
Emily-
I love your mantle! So many soft shades of white! Pretty in every way!
Thanks for sharing it with us!

Very wintery, but not Christmasey at all! Great job! It looks fabulous!
p.s. Love the Ballard book knock-offs! I love decorating with books, but always hard to find covers with the right covers! This is a great idea!
So pretty! Really love those shutters. And why didn’t my Michael’s have that gorgeous mirror?!
This is awesome. I totally love your rustic mantel with the paint pealing, so very nice.
It is GORGEOUS! I really love it. I’m just starting on a book themed mantel right now myself. :) shaunna
I love your mantel! I love winter mantels’s- great use of neutral colors. Blessings!
I love all the layering on your mantle. It adds lots of interest and texture. My favorite are the stacked books.
I would love to see a winter mantle party or at least more winter mantles. such a difficult transition to make. Right now, I have our snowmen collection out decorating. Then there is an even more awkward time just before spring. LOVE your mantel!
Your mantel is lovely!!! Great taste!
I LOVE this … the shutters, your letter, and the mercury vases. It’s perfect for winter (actually, the whole year)!! And, I can’t believe that you got that mirror for only $15 !! I bought three of them (you can see them in my Christmas bedroom post) from Michael’s. I spied them in August, but was not about to pay $80! I did get then for 40% off and another 20, but not nearly as good of a deal that you got!
I love how you have layered everything. I looked at my mantel and thought…this is what I need to do! Love your new mirror and the candles. Really nicely done!
XO,
Jane
Im not sure how that mirror was considered “Christmas decor” either but…yay for you! Im jealous:) Everything looks beautiful. Very wintery, not Christmas-y at all.
love your mantel display…and your gorgeous mantel! ~Deb~
