Last week I was able to experience the coolest thing ever. Every year in Houston there is something called the Nutcracker Market, and it’s a gigantic indoor shopping event where tons of different vendors come and sell all of their pretties. And it is unique items that you can’t find at Hobby Lobby or Target. I guess it’s primarily a great place to start your Christmas shopping. But everything I bought was for me, all me. :) There was home decor, of course Christmas decorations, children’s stuff, clothing, jewelry, food…basically everything.
I had the pleasure of going with a great friend of mine, Utterly Disheveled, and she’s a new blogger too so check her out! It was my first time going to this, and I seriously was drooling when I walked in. And unfortunately, no photography was allowed, but I managed to sneak a few pics with my phone. :)
Here are some of the things I was able to capture. These were just tons of decorative dough bowls.
Some cool candle holder things…
A glass lover’s dream.
And that picture was nothing…there were tons of pretty cloches and apothecary jars everywhere.
A pretty display.
A cool tent for kids that could be easily replicated with pvc pipe.
And then there was this booth…Ahhh this gorgeous booth. I couldn’t stop staring. It was huge too and my picture is not good because the picture police caught me, but just stare at it and look around.
They also had these beautiful parson chair slipcovers made from feed sacks and burlap, and had white ruffly things on it. They were so beautiful. Unfortunately I couldn’t take a picture. :( But that was my favorite booth!
And here is what came home with me.
I didn’t go crazy or anything but easily could have. I love my dough bowl and the Nest sign. I put the dough bowl on top of our kitchen cabinets. Oh, and the wrapping paper. Love it! So yea, I pretty much love everything. :)
Oh, and did I mention it was crowded??? It was seriously nuts. Walking elbow to elbow, cheek to cheek, stepping on people, waiting in long lines, but it was oh so worth it. I can’t wait for it next year!
Do you have anything like this in your area, or did you get to go to this in Houston? I know a few of you were going to go from talking on my Facebook page, so I’d love to hear about it!

Love the Nutcracker Market. This is the first year in 10 (?!) that I’ve missed it. I always find such great stuff there.

I’ve lived in Houston for ten years and I’ve never been. Crowds are NOT my favorite thing but after seeing your pictures I think I might just make a point to go next year. Maybe it would be less crowded if it were open for more than just one weekend. Oh well. No pain, no gain…I guess. :)
Thanks for sharing!
Decorchick! says
They really should have it at least 2 weeks. The crowds can be quite maddening at times.:)

Yea, I like to live on the edge. :)

I don’t get why you couldn’t take pictures! They need to get with the times, people share those pictures now via the internet and it could, just could boost their sales. Good for you sneaking…I appreciate it, and would of bailed you out of that picture jail if it came to that. I don’t think we have anything like that here in San Diego…I would love to go one like that! You did good on your buying…not too much but not too little, love them all.
Decorchick! says
Thank you for offering to bail me out of picture jail Steph! I’m glad it didn’t come to that though. :)
Tammy @ Not Just Paper and Glue says
WOW! That looks awesome. It would have been so worth the drive down. I will have to check it out next year. A whole year I have to wait?
Decorchick! says
Yes, what a bummer huh?!

I’m officially in love with the kids teepee, can’t wait to make one for my granddaughter. :)
I hate it when the picture police catch ya snapping pics and give you the nasty look, don’t you?

I could NOT leave the Paul Michael area… I was completely consumed by everything!
Decorchick! says
Haha, ok, so since it was my 1st time, what is the paul michael area? Is that the big home decor spot in the back where most of my pics were taken?
Nancy Stajduhar says
I would have gone nuts just looking at the glass. Glad you had a good time . The dough bowls would have been a good fine as well
Amy from Austin, TX says
I was one of your facebook “friends” that drove up (down, over?) from Austin to go! It was a TOTAL blast and I got 3 Christmas gifts marked off my list! LOVE the Paul Michael area – if I didn’t restrain myself there, I could drop some SERIOUS cash! Such gorgeous stuff! This was my 3rd time to go and I look forward to it every year! They have one in Austin (its actually this weekend), and its good, but c’mon – everything in Houston is SUPER-SIZED!
Amy (PS: thanks for risking getting thrown into picture taking jail for us!) :)
Decorchick! says
Glad you got a start on some shopping! So what is the PM area?? The home decor stuff?
Brooke says
I am totally kicking myself now. I was in Houston last weekend for a conference & a friend tried to get me to go to the Nutcracker Market, but I thought it had a stupid name, so I didn’t go. Dang it! I guess the whole judge a book by its cover (market by its name?) thing is true after all.
Tina says
This was a lot of fun wasn’t it? We have something similiar in Birmingham, AL called Christmas Village. Except it is only handmade items, but everything is always just lovely!
Love that dough bowl! That is something I do not have, but want!
Tys says
Oh wow! I relocated to Houston over a year ago, and am still learning the ropes. I had heard of this, but didn’t really know what it was all about. Makes me sad to have to wait until next year now! Looks awesome! Thanks for the eye candy!
Roeshel@the DIY Show Off says
Wow! Now that’s my kind of shopping! I wish I was local! Thanks for sharing it through your eyes! Great finds – I love what you got!
Have a great Thanksgiving week!

I so wanted to go but no strollers made it a no-go! You found some great things!!
