Somebody Turned 2!

My sweet, rambunctious Ellie turned 2 yesterday! Can you believe it?! I really loved doing 1 month updates up until she was 1 year old, so obviously I stopped when she turned 1 last July. So you don’t see much of her these days on the blog. I guess it’s time to have another baby. Although I don’t know if my mom could handle watching THREE kids at once, even though she had FOUR, but we will just have to put her to the test I guess. Ha!

Ellie Marie 2 years old

She was such a beautiful baby, and even more beautiful little toddler. She always looked mad when she slept because of her asian eyes (my husband is half Filipino), and I think it’s so cute.

I still remember the day she was born like yesterday, when I didn’t know what was happening. I thought I was “leaking.” But yea, that was actually my water that broke. How’s that for oblivious mama instinct?  Still cracks me up.

She had the most beautiful blonde highlights when she was born, and now she is just blonde. Still not sure how that happened!

She is my wild one, my climber, my daredevil, my screamer, and the one who throws her food. Very different than her big sister that’s for sure. So she really throws me for a loop some days. But she’s a perfect angel at Grandma’s house, go figure. ;)

This year, since both of my girls’ birthdays are just 2 weeks apart, we are having 1 combined birthday party. Something I thought I’d never do. But with crazy schedules, and other family birthday parties happening in July, it is just what worked this year. So we will have 1 big Veggie Tales party for the both of them. :)

I did make her a cake yesterday and we had a quiet dinner at home to celebrate on the actual day.

It was yummy I have to say!

Even though we are having 1 combined party later in the month this year for the whole family, I still think it’s important to celebrate their actual birthday. My mom has always made that a big deal, so it’s stuck with me. She still cooks a birthday dinner and cake for us 4 kids each year, so it’s really special.

What do you all do about birthday parties? Are you a fan of combined parties or no?

xxoo,

I was born on December 29th, my sister was born on December 23rd, and my mother was born on December 28th. It was a busy time of the year and I only got to have two parties while growing up. I also got quite a few combination gifts…Christmas/birthday and usually birthday presents were wrapped in Christmas paper. I think everyone should have their own special day. My husband couldn’t understand. He always said his family never made a big deal out of birthdays. I explained to him that this was OUR family and we were going to make a big deal!

My kids are also two weeks apart. They had joint parties til they had there own little friends. When they were three they had three friends, when they were four they had four friends over. When my daughter was 16 she had about 30 kids!

I had twins so they always had the combo party. To make it special I always made sure they had their own cake!

It was my first time going with Randy to one of hi It was my first time going with Randy to one of his gigs. This wasn’t just any gig though. It was a very special wedding for a beautiful couple.❤️

And after witnessing firsthand what all he does for events like this, I have a new appreciation for what he does because it is a LOT.🤯

From loading in setting up three PA systems in 3 separate areas, then immediately switching gears to performance mode and playing ceremony music + sax, dinner music + MC’ing, then reception DJ’ing + sax. It was really pretty freaking mind-blowing to be honest. And then you have to tear it all down! Talk about a full day (I felt hungover the next day and I don’t even drink), but if you are in the entertainment business you get it. And he does this multiple times a month!

So many moving parts, and being flexible when you need to switch gears at the last minute, and he handles it with so much ease. That’s why he’s the professional at his craft.🫶

I was just there more as his emotional support person, but would love to do more events with him where I’m actually useful. 🤪Maybe I’ll learn to wrap up cords the right way one day to his liking, but that’s doubtful. 🤣

It was the perfect new year’s day and can’t wait to do it again!❤️

Congrats @claudine.said and @chefaustinsimmons it was a JOY witnessing your special day.

3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔 Does life mo 3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔

Does life move on?

Yes, but not without a hazy fog lingering over you that never fully lifts.

Not without the deep ache in your heart longing for more time.

Not without reaching for your phone wanting to call or text.

Not without the family gatherings knowing someone is missing, even though no one mentions it.

Not without crying when you think of him or look at old photos.

I still cannot talk about him without tearing up. Certain songs or sayings break me.

After losing a parent, everything looks different. Time with your family begins to feel more intentional, because you want the moments to last.

The hustle feels less important, because you realize your people matter more than any dollar amount.

Grief and gratitude can coexist. It’s okay to be sad, and it’s okay to be thankful for a dad who is worth missing.❤️
