My Junk

We have not 1, not 2, but THREE junk drawers in the kitchen. Why oh why?  I’ve been meaning to clean them out for about 2 years now.  And there’s nothing better to get your mind off grey paint choices than organizing drawers.

I should warn you about the before photos, but I’m sure you’d expect nothing less from me since you’ve seen my previous messes. :)

Wait, you can’t see the real disaster that occurred in the drawer above.  Here’s a close-up.

See all of those sequins and red stuff surrounding it?  Well, if you guessed that a packet of Chick-Fil-A’s Polynesian sauce exploded, you’d be correct.  That was a gruesome discovery, and no one has confessed to it yet, but I’m waiting.

After a trip to Target to get a few drawer organizers, and filling up a trash bag with lots of junk, here are the drawers today.

The above drawer will probably hold most of my husband’s odds and ends.  I was happy to find our 2nd mailbox key while cleaning out the drawers.  It’s been “missing” for a year now. :)

The sauce goo cleaned up pretty easily since it was all hardened and nasty. Ick!!

It is refreshing to have these drawers nice and orderly now, and not have anyone mad at me because they can’t find the batteries to put in the remote controls.  Organizing things is really life changing for me.  I really need to do this more often. :)

How many junk drawers do you have?  Hopefully not 3 like me…

I’ll be sharing this post at Sarah’s Organize It Party.  And, you can also see me over at Pretty Handy Girl today for her Fall in Love with Your Home series. :)

xxoo,

Oh, I love before and after shots of organization! we have one junk drawer and I go thru it every so often – I’m freakish like that. Still, there are many places throughout the house that have “lost” items in them since my hubby is the opposite of me. Good job on those drawers – that’s a great feeling, huh?

Good for you Gina! Things are always “lost” here too. :)

Dang, girl! I thought I was bad with 2 junky drawers in my kitchen! However, instead of cleaning & throwing out & organizing; we opt to toss all contents into a big “junk box” in the laundry room…
Hope my husband doesn’t read your post, or he’ll have me off to Target in no time!

Your drawers look great! My husband needs his own drawer like that. We have one big junk drawer that barely closes if we open it. It is bad!!

I have to confess that I love my junk drawer. It’s like finding treasure every time I take a deeper look.

No junk drawers here, but only because I don’t have a spare drawer! Instead, all my junk lives on the counter. Hate that! Hmmm, should probably just get rid of the junk and be happier.

Oh I have drawers like that in my kitchen and bathroom! Everytime I open one I say to myselkf “i really need to clean that” but then I shut it and walk away. I am sure half of the mess could be thrown out. One of these day I’ll get to it:)

While I keep most of our drawers on the upper two levels neat…we have one in the basement that is a complete disaster!

I have 4 junk drawers in my kitchen and a 2 cabinets that hold extra dishes/serving dishes with junk smushed in between.. yup, it’s bad. How much were the organizers at Target??

    • Decorchick! says

      February 18, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Yowsa! They weren’t much…one of the big ones was $4 and the other big one was $7. The smaller ones were about $3.

I only have 1….but wish I had the drawer space for another. Then at least the junk would be hidden and not on the table or counters.

Polynesian sauce explodes on its own, with no help from kids or husbands… Something I know all too well.
While it is my fave chick-fil-a sauce, anything that explodes of its own design kinda freaks me out….
    Lovely organizing :)

We have 3 junk drawers. Well, one is mostly for air freshener type supplies but, there’s other miscelaneous stuff in there too. I think I know what organizing activity I’ll work on tomorrow. The hubs just LOVES when I wake up Saturday morning with a “project” on my mind, lol. BTW, still tweeking my pantry makeover then I’ll post pics. Thanks for the fun inspiration and motivation!

Thank you, thank you for showing us your junk drawers! I’m new and all I’ve seen are super perfect rooms & houses by everyone in blogging who does decorating – totally creative people, but I just don’t know how everyone does it! We moved 6 months ago and believe it or not I don’t have a junk drawer (yet!), but I have more than one junk area and can never seem to get ahead. Oh, just found you through Thrifty Decor Chick, now following!

Your new organized drawers look great! I bet it feels good to get that job completed! We do not have a junk drawer, but a junk cabinet, and I swear I clean that thing out every other month! Somehow it goes from looking nice & tidy to a disaster zone in no time at all! I hate it! I would like to blame it on the other people in my home, but truth is, I am just as guilty as they are! I don’t know what the solution is!

The clean up looks fantastic. I like to call mine the miscellany drawer! And I have that same organizer from Target in mine. It’s a life saver for making lots of small spaces for odd and ends. Great job!

It was my first time going with Randy to one of hi It was my first time going with Randy to one of his gigs. This wasn’t just any gig though. It was a very special wedding for a beautiful couple.❤️

And after witnessing firsthand what all he does for events like this, I have a new appreciation for what he does because it is a LOT.🤯

From loading in setting up three PA systems in 3 separate areas, then immediately switching gears to performance mode and playing ceremony music + sax, dinner music + MC’ing, then reception DJ’ing + sax. It was really pretty freaking mind-blowing to be honest. And then you have to tear it all down! Talk about a full day (I felt hungover the next day and I don’t even drink), but if you are in the entertainment business you get it. And he does this multiple times a month!

So many moving parts, and being flexible when you need to switch gears at the last minute, and he handles it with so much ease. That’s why he’s the professional at his craft.🫶

I was just there more as his emotional support person, but would love to do more events with him where I’m actually useful. 🤪Maybe I’ll learn to wrap up cords the right way one day to his liking, but that’s doubtful. 🤣

It was the perfect new year’s day and can’t wait to do it again!❤️

Congrats @claudine.said and @chefaustinsimmons it was a JOY witnessing your special day.

3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔 Does life mo 3 years without Daddy and Pawpaw💔

Does life move on?

Yes, but not without a hazy fog lingering over you that never fully lifts.

Not without the deep ache in your heart longing for more time.

Not without reaching for your phone wanting to call or text.

Not without the family gatherings knowing someone is missing, even though no one mentions it.

Not without crying when you think of him or look at old photos.

I still cannot talk about him without tearing up. Certain songs or sayings break me.

After losing a parent, everything looks different. Time with your family begins to feel more intentional, because you want the moments to last.

The hustle feels less important, because you realize your people matter more than any dollar amount.

Grief and gratitude can coexist. It’s okay to be sad, and it’s okay to be thankful for a dad who is worth missing.❤️
