Hey everyone! I must say, I am pretty darn happy with how these stockings came out. Oh wait, you didn’t know I was making stockings did you? :)
When my Grandma was in town last week, I had her help me make the first one so I would know what to do on the other 4 I needed to make. Keep in mind, I just learned over the summer how to sew. I am still very much an amateur, but I do feel like I am a master threader and bobbin filler-upper now. :)
So we went to Hobby Lobby and I already knew exactly what fabric I wanted the stockings to be.
I have loved that trellis/quatrefoil fabric for forever and finally got some. Then I just bought a little bit of black and red corduroy for the cuff part of the stocking.
And now I present you with our 2010 Christmas stockings made by yours truly.
I don’t know what it is about sewing, but I feel really domesticated when I do sew. You know, like a real wifey? :)
So after my Grandma left to go back to Alabama, I made the other 4 all by myself. But it did take a few phone calls and about 3 skype video chats to her because I’d get confused. I know, I bet you are impressed she even knows how to skype huh? Oh, and she said she wouldn’t claim that first stocking as her work because the insides aren’t lined or anything. She’s so silly. Doesn’t she understand I like to cut corners, and as long as it looks good on the outside that’s perfection to me?
Here’s the inside.
Looks perfect to me! :)
And here are a few more pics just for fun.
Do you love them? I LUUUUUUUV them. :) I will post a tutorial soon. But sewing tutorials are not my forte ok? The stocking part itself is incredibly easy, and I knocked those out in no time. I only had problems with the cuff part, which then led to many calls to granny. :) I would like to embroider our names on them, but if I don’t get to that this year it’s ok. The boys are black and the girls are red!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED
Now for that little giveaway I mentioned in my title. This is the time of year everyone has warm fuzzies right? Well they have struck me, and I’d like to do a little sumthin’ sumthin’ for all of you. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with gratitude lately. Life is fantastic, God is good, and it’s the season for giving and not receiving.
This blog would be nothing without all of you. You are what keeps me going to get things done around our home. You motivate me to post when I don’t feel like posting. Gosh, and all of the sweet comments you all leave. Really, it keeps me going and y’all are such an encouragement. This really has become a dream job and I am so very thankful to have the support you all give.
So with that said, I am giving away this…
Just in time to help with Christmas shopping or a little splurge on yourself. In case you are wondering, no, I am not rich. Could I use this $50? You betcha! But I just feel very thankful for everything and want to give one of you a little treat.
I am thankful for many things, but today I am especially thankful for this sweet lady.
I am grateful she taught me how to make the stockings, and grateful for her famous caramel cake. That cake is the best thing you will ever put in your mouth. That particular one she made while she was here, and it was 5 layers, but she’s made them in 6 or 7 layers before! It really is decadent.
So if you would like to enter the giveaway to win the $50 gift card, all you need to do is:
1. Leave a comment and tell me what you are thankful for this holiday season (please be a follower first).
As additional entries, you can:
2. Become a follower of my blog, or let me know you already do.
3. Blog, tweet, or facebook about this giveaway and get people to start thinking what they are thankful for. :)
Be sure and leave separate comments for each thing you do. I’ll run this through Saturday, November 27 and will announce the winner then.
Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate all of you!!
If you are new here to my site (thank you!), don’t forget you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and subscribe to my RSS feed by clicking here. :)
I’m sharing this post at Blue Cricket Design, Someday Crafts, Be Different Act Normal, Funky Junk Interiors, The Shabby Nest, Between Naps on the Porch, My Romantic Home, Thrifty Decor Chick, Kate’s Holiday Craft Party and Under the Table and Dreaming.

Your stockings are great! Nice work. And if they look that good for the first shot, I can only imagine what you’ll think of in the future. :)
This season, I’m thankful for… everything. I know it sounds cliche, but life is soooo good!
I am so thankful for my wonderful husband and the job that he has. It allows me to stay at home with our 2 beautiful boys. Sometimes he even works a second job just so we can have extra money. I appreciate all he does every single day.
Well aren’t you just the sweetest ever! :)
I’m already a follower of your fabulous blog!! :)
I put this on my Facebook! Thanks.
Also a subscriber! :)
I have alot to be thankful for! But right now, given the last couple weeks we’ve had….I’m especially thankful that my daughter is out of pain, for the wonderful doctors at Riley Children’s Hospital for taking care of her, that we are blessed enough to have medical insurance, and that we live in a wonderful country where medical intervention is possible!!
And more importantly….that we have a God that allows all that to be possible!! :)
I am thankful to be spending another Thanksgiving with my sons. I only wish my daughter could be home, but she will be gone again this year (she is on her third deployment to Iraq). Hopefully next year we can all be together!
I have tweeted the giveaway!
I am very thankful for a healthy family, our jobs, our home and all the “luxuries” we have. We are blessed!
I am thankful for shaving a great job with a nice paycheck and even better benefits in this rough economy.

I am thankful that my family is happy and healthy!!
I have a lot to be thankful for this year. After 3 years of unemployment/underemployment my dh has landed a job in his field. It’s in our town (we don’t have to move) and we get health insurance benefits again. No more paying out of pocket! Rx benefits! Eye and Dental, too!
I was so ready for this to happen 3 years ago, but it was all God’s timing. I have learned patience, and even turning to other people with my needs. I can’t do it on my own- 3 years and we never missed a mortgage payment. 3 years and we never went on food stamps. 3 years of trusting God to provide for our every need. 3 years of God being faithful & providing for us via friends and strangers.
Happy Thanksgiving.
PS I’ve been reading your blog for 6 months.
I am so thankful for my son and his health.

This holiday season, I’m so thankful for my three girls, but especially my youngest, Ava. She’s 3.5 months old. She was born with gastroschisis (where the intestines protrude out of the body thru a hole in the abdominal wall, there is a 90% success rate and affects 1 in every 2500 births). She had 4 surgeries to close her up, and the fourth surgery was when she was 6 days old. She had her 5th surgery at 34 days old to correct pyloric stenosis, and her 6th surgery at 55 days old to correct a hiatal hernia. She spent 66 days in the NICU, and came home a month ago. I thank God every day for our strong, brave girl, and for my two other healthy girls.

After reading this, I am thankful for the time I had with my Granny before she passed away.
Oh I am so glad I found this…I needed it today. Car #1 the heat broke {not good in Indiana..} Car #2 somethings broke…I forget what they called it…. Total Repair bill right before Christmas – $2000. $1100 is for car #1…and the $25 part that it will take to fix it (I even offered to make cookies to off set some of the labor costs — and the mechanic just looked at me…hot cocoa? Anyone?} So I needed this to post to think about all the things I am thankful on the *fabulous* day. I’m thankful that we have 2 cars – some people don’t have any. I’m thankful for our new house. My hubby’s job. My son’s school (which is sooo much better) and all of our family. amandaandandy@yahoo.com

Like you, I am thankful for everything! I am most especially thankful that during this past year, the Lord has drawn me nearer to him than ever before, and I just feel so blessed for this.
If I won the gift card, I’d like to give it to the local animal shelter. I’m a real goober when it comes to doggies and there are many that need a helping hand these days.
Please count me in for the drawing. Oh BTW, I am on your website everyday. It’s listed on my “favorites”.
I am thankful for my WONDERFUL family and my AMAZING daughter! :)

I am thankful for the “third branch” of our family, which consists of my husband and my dearest and best friends, their children and grandchildren. We love them as if they were blood relatives and they love us back. It’s family. It’s good.
I’m so thankful for my family, my husband, our 3 pups, our beautiful home, and our wonderful church!! I’m so thankful to have a job that I love!
Your stockings look terrific! I really like the fabric you chose. I’m thankful for my family, good health, and being one year closer to retirement.
I am a follower. You are lucky to have Grandma to teach you to sew. Ask her about french seams which are easy and great when you don’t want to line something. You could make a pillowcase to try out the technique.
i’m thankful for my AMAZING husband!! (after 10 years i’m saying this, so he must be special! ha!)
I am so very thankful that i will be traveling 12 hours with my husband, best friend and dog to be home for the holidays! I miss my family o so much, and they make the holidays that much more special! yay!

I’m thankful for my 3 week old son, Charlie! And for my sweet husband and our families. Oh… and can I be thankful for pecan pie and cranberry sauce, too?? Because I am.
And I follow your blog on my RSS feed. :)
I am thankful for my family’s support throughout my college years; they have made life so easier for me so I can focus on my studies.
I’m also thankful for my Grama. She lives about two hours away, but was in town for a doctor app’t yesterday and discovered her cancer has re-appeared. She’s fought and beat it before, and I’m hopeful she can again, but it’s really made me realize how incredible she really is.
PS…your stockings look great! The trellis fabric is gorgeous and I love the corduroy cuff. If you ever want to make a lined version, I just posted a (really easy) tutorial earlier this fall: http://sewmanydreams.blogspot.com/2010/10/festive-christmas-stocking-tutorial.html

I am thankful this Thanksgiving for our new home. For five years, my husband and I pinched and saved while starting our family in a tiny cracker jack box. This year, we are able to celebrate the holidays, relaxing in all of our handy-work :)
I am thankful for my kids. They are an amazing blessing to have. I couldn’t ask for anything more than that. :)

It’s so simple, but we didn’t always have this.
Right now though… I’m more thankful for my sewing machine than anything else. I’ve wanted to sew for years and finally got a machine a few weeks ago!
(Beautiful stockings by the way! I’m about to make some so I’m looking forward to your tutorial ;) )

This thanksgiving will be spent in a hospital room, keeping my recovering loved one company but I Am so grateful. I know that some familes have empty seats at their dining room table this year because loved ones have gone to heaven or are estranged or are far away. I am grateful to God for every precious moment with my now totally healthy family!
