Decorchick!

Deck the Mantel

Ho ho ho!  It’s definitely beginning to feel like Christmas now.  We’ve been busy ever since Friday trying to get all of the Christmas decorations up, but I’ve learned when you have a toddler, you have to do it in increments. :)

But I did manage to get the mantel complete so that’s what I’ll be showing you today!

In case you are wondering, that is the Pottery Barn decorative ledge that I use as a mantel.  I got it at PB’s outlet store for $150, and it was the best $150 I’ve ever spent. :)   It’s so fun having a mantel to decorate!

I already had the shutters from a thrifting trip, and everything else came from Hobby Lobby or Homegoods.  I did make the stockings and you can read about that here if you’d like.  I put two strands of the battery operated lights around the garland for a little more bling, since we don’t have an outlet up high on the wall.

A few closeups…

Some Christmas trees made out of feathers, because everyone needs feathers on a mantel right?

And those mercury glass vases in the above picture were from Homegoods.  I love them.  And they can be used all year round which is even better.

Front and center…

And just a few more for fun, because I like fun.

So that’s the mantel for this year.  What kind of style is it?  I have no idea.  I just use what I like. :)  I’m usually a pretty traditional type of gal with a little fun thrown in.  There, that’s my style! :)

Layla is having a mantel party on Tuesday, so be sure and get them ready so you can link up yours.  There will be plenty of inspiration and I can’t wait!  Also linking to Hooked on Houses Holiday House Tours impromptu party, Thrifty Decor Chick, Tatertots and Jello, Funky Junk Interiors, Under the Table and Dreaming and The Shabby Nest.

xxoo,

Decorchick!

Emily, I love how you’ve decorated your mantle for Christmas! The shutters still give it nice height and I really love those mercury glass vases. And of course, your stockings are too cute! I don’t know where to put ours this year that James wont get into them unless I hang them high on a wall (since we have no mantle)!

LOVE!! We don’t have a fireplace either in our new house. We also don’t have a PB or outlet near me. Maybe I can get my husband to try and build a similar thing. I’ve been trying to figure out where to hang our stockings and this might be the perfect solution!

I love your mantel. I especially like the shutter. I saw one at a great price at a local thrift store. Well, I actually saw it 3 different times there. I looked at it and I looked at it and I held it in my hand and I put it in my cart and each time I put it back on the shelf before leaving the store. I new it was a great find but I just didn’t know what to do with. Why or why didn’t I just go with my gut and buy it!

I have been hunting and hunting for a big ol’ shelf — a Mantel Shelf. A persoanl THANK YOU from me regarding your wonderful photos and your disclosure of PB as source. Yes, that shelf is wait-listed here in NY and PA as well. So, I simply ordered it so I can get started quickly. Are ya reading this Pottery Barn? Certainly they should bestow a gift upon you for being such a promotor. Yes, my sister just looked and she also bought that PB shelf! You rock!

Love the mercury glass vases. I’m a fan of Home Goods also. Wouldn’t it be fun to play a bit with those cool shutter? Such as, pull out 2″ and tuck a little Santa or a raindeer back there, peeking out at the world.

Tonight was the 3rd griefshare meeting that I’ve attended, and that does help to be around others who have lost someone close. But it is also so painful hearing their stories. And it’s a night during the week that I’m forced to think about how he’s no longer here. It’s helped me to realize all of the thoughts and actions we have are normal, and the things we do that are odd to others, are actually part of the process.

I haven’t been able to wear these shirts of his yet (he wore them every single day. The red one was his “fancy” one), but I’m glad I have them. It’s just really crappy I can’t see him in them any longer. 💔
