Ho ho ho! It’s definitely beginning to feel like Christmas now. We’ve been busy ever since Friday trying to get all of the Christmas decorations up, but I’ve learned when you have a toddler, you have to do it in increments. :)
But I did manage to get the mantel complete so that’s what I’ll be showing you today!
In case you are wondering, that is the Pottery Barn decorative ledge that I use as a mantel. I got it at PB’s outlet store for $150, and it was the best $150 I’ve ever spent. :) It’s so fun having a mantel to decorate!
I already had the shutters from a thrifting trip, and everything else came from Hobby Lobby or Homegoods. I did make the stockings and you can read about that here if you’d like. I put two strands of the battery operated lights around the garland for a little more bling, since we don’t have an outlet up high on the wall.
A few closeups…
Some Christmas trees made out of feathers, because everyone needs feathers on a mantel right?
And those mercury glass vases in the above picture were from Homegoods. I love them. And they can be used all year round which is even better.
Front and center…
And just a few more for fun, because I like fun.
So that’s the mantel for this year. What kind of style is it? I have no idea. I just use what I like. :) I’m usually a pretty traditional type of gal with a little fun thrown in. There, that’s my style! :)
Layla is having a mantel party on Tuesday, so be sure and get them ready so you can link up yours. There will be plenty of inspiration and I can’t wait! Also linking to Hooked on Houses Holiday House Tours impromptu party, Thrifty Decor Chick, Tatertots and Jello, Funky Junk Interiors, Under the Table and Dreaming and The Shabby Nest.
xxoo,
Decorchick!
Emily, it looks great! I love that mantle from Pottery Barn!! The shutters are a great touch.
Thanks so much Lauren!
Looks so pretty Emily! Love the vases. They are a great size and add a great sparkle to the mantel. The lights look great too. I forget to turn mine off at night and burn them out so don’t forget!
Thanks Anita! Thanks for the reminder! :)
Your mantel looks fabulous. Love it. Hugs, Marty
Thanks so much Marty!!
Absolutely stunning! Love it! :)
Thanks so much Myra!
Emily, I love how you’ve decorated your mantle for Christmas! The shutters still give it nice height and I really love those mercury glass vases. And of course, your stockings are too cute! I don’t know where to put ours this year that James wont get into them unless I hang them high on a wall (since we have no mantle)!
Thank you! What about your bar? :)
Looks so, so pretty!!! I need to get my act in gear and write a mantel post!!!
Thanks Cassie! Can’t wait to see yours!
Luh. Shuss. NESS!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!
Layla :-)
Haha thank you so much!!
LOVE!! We don’t have a fireplace either in our new house. We also don’t have a PB or outlet near me. Maybe I can get my husband to try and build a similar thing. I’ve been trying to figure out where to hang our stockings and this might be the perfect solution!
I’ve seen someone recreate this exact ledge and it came out great. Can’t remember who it was though…
I just love seeing how you enjoy decorating your mantle, it looks fantastic. I would say it is styled your style, which is the best style anyone can have, their own.
Thanks Stephanie, I agree!
It is absolutely beautiful! Totally love it! :)
Thanks so much Kara!
Your mantel is fabulous! LOVE the shutters! =) Mercury glass is getting so popular! I have to track some down to see in person sometime. Yours look great! =)
Thank you Robin. :)
Such an awesome give away.
Love your mantle. I’m a follower.
CAS
In love with this mantel! That is all I have to say about that :)
Thank you Katie!!
Soo pretty! The mercury glass hurricanes are my favorite of all that you’ve got displayed. Drool….
That’s great, thanks for letting me know!
Very cute! And the good thing about a fireless mantel is you dont have to worry about the baby!
Exactly! :)
I love your mantel. I especially like the shutter. I saw one at a great price at a local thrift store. Well, I actually saw it 3 different times there. I looked at it and I looked at it and I held it in my hand and I put it in my cart and each time I put it back on the shelf before leaving the store. I new it was a great find but I just didn’t know what to do with. Why or why didn’t I just go with my gut and buy it!
Thanks so much Pam! Hopefully you will come across some more shutters soon. I buy stuff I don’t know what I’ll do with right way all the time. :)
Oh so pretty! For the record your style sounds a lot like mine and I’m loving the feather trees : )
Paula
Thanks so much Paula! Yay for feathers!
Where did you get those awesome stocking hangers? Love them.
vikki
At Hobby Lobby. :)
How much do I love this? Totally festive, creative, and fun! I’d say you sure got your money’s worth with that ledge :)
Thank you so much Cindy!
Cute, cute! That was a great buy on that ledge and you are brilliant to use it as your mantle!
Thank you so much!
I still love that mantle you got at the outlet and am jealous we don’t have a PB outlet nearby.
Great job on the Christmas decor!

Thanks so much Brittany! It’s 3 hours away, but still worth it. :)
Love it! The shutters are a fun element too.
xo,
cristin
Thanks Cristin!
Very pretty! I’d say it’s traditional with a little rustic thrown in. ;) But you don’t have to try to define it. It’s just you. :) I love the vases, they add the perfect touch.
Yes Carmen, rustic! Why couldn’t I think of that word when I wrote my post? Thank you. :)
Gorgeous! I’ve been looking for sparkly branches like that. Where did you get those? Thanks in advance!!
Thanks Erin, those were from Hobby Lobby. And they are VERY messy. Those little sparkly things fall EVERYWHERE.
So funny, I have a faux-mantel with a twig wreath and mercury glass in my mantel too, and yet they look nothing the same.
Yours is really pretty.
Love yours!!
Love your mantel. I have a mantel shelf in our living room. I was going to paint it black, but I’m liking the distressing on your PB one. I also like the traditional with shine mixed with more rustic elements. Very cool.
Thanks so much Elizabeth. A little rustic is the word I was trying to think of!
Oh – I hear you. I am doing this in increments too! I’m on day 3 here (and hopefully final!) Working around toddlers to decorate is NOT easy! Your mantle looks great!! (Is that a sippy cup I see in there??? j/k)
Ha, I wouldn’t be surprised! Thanks so much!
I’ve been debating on buying that PB mantel too, maybe I just just got for it! You’ve decorated yours so beautifully!
Yes do it!! :)
Your mantle turned out so pretty.
Mental note: Must.Get. Pottery.Barn.Ledge.
:)
Ha, thank you so much! Yes, get it!!
Just beautiful! I LOVE IT!
This looks fantastic on your wall. I love the shutters – they add so much texture. I also love the fact that you don’t let not having a fireplace stop you from creating a place to hang your stockings.
My best- Diane
Let me just start by saying ” I can’t believe you have that PB shelf!!! I’m a little jealous!” LOL
Very beautiful… and so is the Christmas decor…lol
Love the shutters & stockings!

I love it all! I am totally going to need to do something like this since I don’t have space in the house for a real mantle. Love the feather trees and mercury vases.
I can totally see what you are in love with your PB ledge. I would have guessed it was architectural salvage!
Sarah
Hi! I used one of your photos on my blog for Decorating ideas. I love your makeshift mantle! I linked back to you!

I love everything about it! Beautiful!
Love the wreath positioned in front of the shutters. The distressed mantel is gorgeous!
Your mantel is lovely! The pottery barn ledge is gorgeous. Love the chippy white paint and how you have dressed the mantel. Thanks for sharing.
How lovely…I just love how you created a mantle-like showpiece for the Holidays.
Hope you’re enjoying the Holiday Season.
Ok, this takes the cake…this is the most CLEVER mantel ever. I love it and I’m glad I clicked on it from the link party. :) Really something special!
This is very pretty! I admire people with the natural knack for putting things together and making them look like they belong in a store window :)
I have been hunting and hunting for a big ol’ shelf — a Mantel Shelf. A persoanl THANK YOU from me regarding your wonderful photos and your disclosure of PB as source. Yes, that shelf is wait-listed here in NY and PA as well. So, I simply ordered it so I can get started quickly. Are ya reading this Pottery Barn? Certainly they should bestow a gift upon you for being such a promotor. Yes, my sister just looked and she also bought that PB shelf! You rock!
Love the mercury glass vases. I’m a fan of Home Goods also. Wouldn’t it be fun to play a bit with those cool shutter? Such as, pull out 2″ and tuck a little Santa or a raindeer back there, peeking out at the world.
Thank you again, lovely post and great information.
I really enjoy reading your blog, I just recently started one, thanks for being such an inspriation!!
Very good blog.Much thanks again. Much obliged.
I agree that it was a well-spent $150. Congrats! :)
