I am sure you all have seen the lovely alphabet wreath in Ballard’s new catalog right? This one…
Well that is actually the one from their website, but the one in the catalog looks prettier.
Anyway, here is my version…
Yes, I know it’s not as grand as the Ballard wreath. And I also know mine is not spruce. :) So that’s why I didn’t really know if I could call it a knock-off? But it’s similar, kind of? :) I guess mine would be pine instead of spruce?
Anyway, here is how I made it.
I took one of the $5 initials from Hobby Lobby…
A very old wreath that no one bought in my garage sale…
Cut off some of the stems (branches?) and started gluing them on my initial.
And just keep gluing pieces till you have it all filled up, tie some ribbon, and hang!
Wow, I really need to clean that mirror better. And I just realized we have a lot of A’s around the house.
Just a tip…since those particular initials are slightly heavier, they will wobble a little if you are just hanging with ribbon. Just put those little double-sided sticky tape things on the back and you’ll be all set.
Want more? Ok.
So whatcha think? I was pretty happy with it. :) It would be pretty to lightly dust the ends with some metallic spray paint too, or even add a few pinecones. I don’t think it’s too Christmasy to already have hanging up, do you? But IT is almost here!! Yippee!!
I bet y’all are all wondering why I didn’t use one of the 20 trees we have in the garage huh? Well the answer is because I knew not everyone would have a spare Christmas tree hanging around, and a spare wreath is much more likely to have around if you wanted to make this. :)
Ballard’s, are you proud, even though I didn’t use spruce, mine is half the size of yours, and mine only cost $5 to make?

xxoo,
Decorchick!
BEAUTIFUL, Emily!! :) You know I love a good knock off — and your is just perfect! And SO easy and inexpensive to make! Thanks so much for your great tutorial! :) BTW — I’m SO jealous of those awesome mirrors!
Thanks so much Amanda! Haha, I like those mirrors too. :)
I love it! You made it your own, if you wanted it exactly like Ballard you would of bought it right? It looks wonderful and the price is right.
Thank you Stephanie, exactly! :)
I actually like your version better! Great job!
Aww thanks Stephanie!
How lovely! I should make one for our door and decorate it like a traditional wreath. Thanks for the idea and tutorial!
Thanks Melissa! That would be pretty!
It looks great! I have been lusting over their Alphabet wreaths for YEARS! I think it was one of the first things I ever blogged about even. We don’t have a hobby lobby here but I will be on the lookout for a big letter to attempt it! Thank you for sharing!
Haha, shows how much I know. I didn’t know they’ve had these for years. lol!
What a gret idea! I never would have thought to do that! Thanks so much for showing us!
Thank you Holly!
Oh, I love it! And I’m an A too:) p.s. I’ve been dying to call you- will do after my grandma leaves:)
Yes, I’ve been waiting for her to leave so we can chat. :)
Looks terrific~!! good for you getting what you wanted at such a great bargain.
Thank you!
Emily, I really like it! Honestly, I see no difference between yours and the Ballard one. Yours is just as nice, if not nicer. It’s also great how you used that old wreath. There’s a reason it didn’t sell on your garage sale! Thanks for sharing the neat idea!
Nancy
Aww you’re too sweet. I know you are just being nice! lol.
Super Cute!!!
Looks awesome! I can’t wait to try this out. But with a last name that starts with a “W” I am not sure how I will get it to hang :(
Lord help me, I have had too much cough medicine today. I see now that I can hang it from the “arch.”
You crack me up! But you know, I didn’t even think about other initials…DUH!! So the W would be more difficult too. And now that I’m thinking about it, lots of initials would be hard! haha
Super cute! I totally want to make one of these now!
Thanks Katie!
I love it! And the mirrors and your tablescape!!
Thank you Lauren!
Love it! This is my kind of project…so cute!
Thanks Paula!
i love it! the first thing i thought when i saw that wreath in the catalogue was “how can i make one for way cheaper?” you did the thinking for me! it turned out great.
Aww thanks Liz!!
It’s adorable! And it’s never too early for a little pine/spruce wreath in the house. Looks very festive.
Thank you so much Sara!
This is a great idea. I love how you used things that most of us can get. (without paying a lot for it)
I LOVE your take on such a classic idea!
I made one of these, too, a few years ago when I first saw them in the catalog! I wanted a large one, so my husband “volunteered” to make an iron form for me, and I just wrapped garland around and around until it was full. I tied ribbon to the back, but I actually hang it from the back of the wreath since it is heavy (the ribbon is just for looks, lol). It hangs above my fireplace every Christmas.
Aww I bet that’s beautiful!!
That is awesome! I would love for you to come link that in my Strut Your Stuff Party! http://danajeanward.blogspot.com/2010/11/strut-your-stuff-party.html
Super cute!!! You have a good initial to work with too! :)
Thank you Cassie!
That is darling. Combines my two favorites . . wreaths and letters. LOVE IT. And your mixer post cracks me up as I have the same darn mixer. I was given the red one for our wedding and took it back {at the time it took up too much valuable real estate} what was I thinking!!!
Haha oh wow!
Gorgeous! I think I may have to do this for spring time, but with a boxwood instead!
OMG I love this! I love this! I love this! I don’t think I can say that enough. I might be borrowing this idea to make as Christmas gifts for hard to buy people i.e. my mom and aunt! Thank you for sharing.
Great idea!!!!
That turned out great! And the price is definitely better!
This is such a clever idea. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh! I’ve had three wooden initials just like yours that I had no idea what to do with (I wanted to use them for something interesting, just didn’t know what) and when I saw this, that little light bulb went on in my brain! I love Ballard Designs and never thought to do something like this! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I still like it! You did good!
