A Sea of Glass…The Summer Mantel

Y’all know how much I LOVE redoing our mantel right?  Well it was time for another switcheroo since summer is almost here (yay!), and so I wanted to bring in some bright cheery colors, and since I can’t get enough of yellow these days, yellow and aqua is what landed on the mantel this time.

And what’s even better is that I didn’t buy anything for it except for the fresh flowers! Most everything, like all of the aqua glass bottles and mirror were from our master bedroom when it was blue.  But now the bedroom isn’t blue anymore, it’s grey. :)  Blue walls I found out real quick I get tired of, but blue accessories here and there, I like.

The lemons were just to add a touch more yellow to this side of the mantel to even it out. :)

And a few more because I always go overboard with my mantel pics.

Do I dare say that this may be my favorite one since I think I say that each time I redo it?  :)  But what I do love the most about this mantel is that there is NO way I could have ever used these colors with the old camel colored walls.  And now these colors fit in perfectly with the new decor and colors throughout the house. Yay!  Neutral walls with whatever color you want as accents is such a great concept. I wish I would have understood that a few years ago. ;)

And if you aren’t familiar with all of this crazy camel wall talk, you can check out the Our Home tab and see all of the most recent makeovers to the house, with plenty of before and afters so you can see what I’m talking about. The entryway and the living room used to be camel. :)

And how totally creative to just have a mantel display on the wall!
My true mantel has a tv over it and I always wish I had a mantel to decorate… this looks like the answer!

  9. This is my favorite of yours so far!! Absolutely stunning!

  10. I LOVE IT!! It’s gorgeous!!! I can’t WAIT to finish mine!

  11. i am in LOVE with that mirror. holy shmoley! that is the prettiest little (big) mirror i have seen!! and i love how casual and pretty the rest of the mantle is. also, i think it’s awesome that you added a mantle to a hallway without having a fireplace there. who says a mantle NEEDS to go over a fireplace? awesome. that’s what i say.

  12. Love the blue & yellow color combo. And I have left my walls white. Can’t get any more neutral than that. But it is really because I can never make up my mind as to what color to paint the walls. And white goes with everything. Love the color or your wall.

  13. I love the colors together. Great job!

  14. Looks so beautiful and fresh!! Love the blue and yellow.

  15. I really so love looking at this mantel. I saw it again in the Pottery Barn book that I just got in the mail. It is just gorgeous and I love the way you have added the special touches of yellow and blue. It looks great!

  16. It looks great! I love the colors!

  17. Oh, I just love this Emily. The colors are so great. Makes me want to sip on an eye cold glass of fresh lemonade. Is that weird???!

  18. Your mantel looks amazing! One of my favorite color combos!

  19. Beautiful — it says, “Summer: Bring it on.” My fave colors happen to be yellow and turquoise. Don’t believe me? Just visit my post where I blog about it! http://altered-artworks.blogspot.com/2010/07/when-life-gives-you-lemons-drink-up.html
    Thanks for sharing.

  20. Love it! I really need to go out and buy some fresh flowers now after seeing how beautiful your mantel is. :)

  21. SO fresh and lovely!

  22. Those are very nice colors. I really need color in my living room, but I have camel walls. We just moved into this apartment (downsizing) so I don’t think we can change them. Plus, everyone has camel walls with the white trim. I’ll keep watching you so you can help me out on this. Glad to have found you.

  23. I just love the brightness and color of this mantel decor. Gorgeous.

  24. I love the glass on the end, it almost looks like seaglass. This reminds me that I need to get my summer decor up.

  25. I switched blogs and I lost your blog… I’m now following with my “new” blog. I absolutely LOVE yellow this summer as well. Your mantel looks great!!! :)

  26. What a delightful and cherry looking mantle! The aqua and yellow combo on one of my faves.

  27. Bright and cheerful summer mantle! I love the pops of yellow and that mirror!

  28. Anne with an "e" says:

I just wanted to tell you that your summer mantel inspires me to lighten up! The colors are fantastic…. I will copy this but add a lime green as well, because that is just me! Thanks for the inspiration! Oh, and I LOVE the mosiac mirror!

  29. Love this color combo, it looks fantastic. I also love the rug I see in the room.

  30. Gorgeous! Love the colors, and how nice that you already had everything you needed for it! Okay…also love that you created your own “mantel” just right there in the hallway. No fireplace needed. I’ve been a little sad looking at all of these gorgeous summer mantels because I don’t have a fireplace. But this gives me something to think about. Not sure I’d even have room for something like this in my tiny condo, but at least I can give it some thought.

I hope you’ll come link to the A2D Sunday Link Party!!

  31. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  32. That is such a pretty color combo!! I’m loving how you pieced it all together. Do you happen to remember where you got the three white vases in the middle?

  33. I have been considering changing my wall colours to a light neutral like yours. Now I’m convinced! The mantle looks great! :)

  34. So fresh and cheery! love the color scheme!

  35. you have a beautiful home!

  36. Very pretty. The aqua and yellow is so pretty together.

    Happy Monday to you.

  40. Your mantel is lovely and I couldn’t get enough pictures to look at! I’m with you, I learned in the past year that a blue room I do not love for long, but a neutral room with blue accents rocks my boat. The aqua and yellow of your decor goes perfectly, and gives a bright summery feel to your mantel. Thanks for sharing at Between Naps!

  41. This is so pretty. Interesting way to have a piece of summer all year long. :)

  1. […] that’s a wrap!  I really am thrilled with how it came out.  You can see last year’s summer mantel here.  I loved it a lot too! […]
